I've got the same problem with Av-660 about the HDDVD video playback on samsung HDTV: it sais unable to output the video to an external device...
i tried vga cable, HDMI cable - nothing... I have updated the Toshiba HDDVD player to the latest version, tried to install new video drivers
Maximum it shows not more then two seconds of splash video and that's all

Hey Sphinx. It's been awhile, but I finally got my upgrade disk. Like I had hoped it was toshiba centric. There was a link to a toshiba upgrade helper. It unistalled apps and components and drivers then installed the vista replacements. Teh problem I kept have was blue screen before the install could finish. The dvd was not bootable either. I ended up using one of my oem dvd's with my upgrade key to install form scratch. Once it finished I rant that utility and it finished my hardware and the software installs. so far so good. I also purchased a 150X 2GB sdcard for ready boost. I am perplexed as to why my memory score is so low. It was 2.6 while the next lowest score is 4.1.
