Yeah...ditto, i'll be getting my 3-pronged ac adapter in the mail in the next couple days also (ebay special! comes with 1 year warrenty from ebay store, very nice), so I can test my results and confirm! (I couldn't wait for a soultion, i needed to find out for myself now heh, no patience...) It'll work out nicely too, cuz then i'll have an extra.

To all the gentlepeople who called ME a troller and other names:

I just retired from Unisys in 2001 and moved to FL from IL. Don't ask me why I include this bit of information. I just figured that after US Navy schooling and 35 years in electronics I might have learned something.

No, I didn't read nine pages of posts before expressing my opinion on the subject. Was it a requirement?

Can any one of you cite the number of people who were seriously injured by static electricity last year?

Does any one of you out there know of a single E1x05 Inspiron which was damaged by this serious problem?

How is it that each person posting to this forum seems to know more than the one who posted immediately before him/her?

Well there's atleast one on this forum that it's quit. And i'm sure there's plenty more out there that have had problems because of this, and i've heard of many problems with individual hardware failure, prematurely that is. Being one of the Navy, wouldn't you have plenty of patience and gumption to actually read the thread before shooting out stray ideas? No, but I can tell you how many STATIC SENSITIVE electronic components are damaged by STATIC ELECTRICITY....shitloads!

35 years in electronics should have told you this. Stray voltage (no matter how low) on a the motherboard ground plane is NOT GOOD.

I have no new updates rather than to say I am waiting to hear back from Mike from Consumer Advocacy with Dell. Also I was pointed to a thread on Slashdot with GROSS inaccuracies. I would like to state publically, Dell has NOT gotten me banned off any websites. I do not know who this person is that posted the story, but it is false.

Also as others have said, please before you jump into this thread and say how this is NOT possible, read the whole thing. In the case of gswetsky, if he had bothered to READ the thread he would know his argument in moot.

Has this problem been directly related to the NMI Party BSOD? Looks like it from most of people posting in the thread. I've ran memtest on my RAM for days without and error and have tried several video card drivers and I still get a NMI BSOD atleast once a day. I've only had this laptop less than two weeks and it started to happen last weekend. I've tried two different AC Adapters and still get teh BSOD. They are both 3 pronged adapters and hooked up to a surge protector. They are REV A02 and REV A03. It's really annoying the hell out of me.

At this point we do not know for certain that they are connected. All we know is that several of the laptops showing the voltage leak are also showing the NMI errors. And for what it's worth, my RAM passed every mem test I threw at it as well. Yet I had the NMI BSOD every night.

What speed RAM do you have? 533MHz of 667MHz?

Anyone still have NMI errors on the new A07 9400/e1705 BIOS or the M1710 A05 BIOS?

I'll try my original DDR2 667 and see how that goes.

So far I've ruled out video drivers and video card, since I had the errors with my 7900GS also. I'll try the 667MHz RAM first then the A05 BIOS. If I still get errors, it's probably due to the stray voltage somehow.

I was contacted by Mike B. at Dell in Texas. The first email was to go over the concerns that we have, so that Dell may address them. I also will be sending Mike my laptop so that he can perform his own tests and get to the bottom of this problem.

For the record our correspondence was very pleasant and I look forward to hearing from him again soon. I have no real updates for you other than that. But at least the ball is ow rolling, Dell's engineers will be looking into this problem and figuring out the best way to solve it.

Get to the bottom of what???

Its simple..the AC supply needs better grounding, hence the 3-pin adapter....

It has BEEN SOLVED.....what are they doing???

Another confirmed case here, 29.5v AC off the screws on the bottom while plugged in, and nothing if I unplug it.

I get 135 volts of AC on the screws. The normal voltage in the outlets here are 230 volts.
I have had this laptop for one year now, and not a single time have I gotten the NMI parity error or whatever everybody's talking about here...

I ruled out RAM and BIOS. I got the NMI error with the new A05 BIOS and with 2 different 2x1GB PC4200 RAM and 2x512MB PC5300 RAM and they all passed memtest and DELL diagnostics.
