Are they shipping a 3-prong adapter with your new system??? What exaclty did you state in your email to dell?
Nothing that we haven't discussed here already. I have had many problems with my system in the past....

After seeing this thread, i tested my e1705 for stray volts with some negative, but also inconclusive results. Just to be sure, I spoke with a dell rep today via chat and they promised a 100$ coupon to purchase the dell 3 prong adapter. I'll see how it pans out.

wow that's great! looks like you found one heck of a silver lining. also, do you know if the new dell bios revisions will still enable the GSX mods?

That's good to hear that you're winning the fight....I have yet to see any headway in this battle to right the wrongs....:-(

As an update, The manager I have been speaking with is supposed to call me first thing tomorrow. So hopefully we will have a definitive solution at that point.

First thing tomorrow meaning wednesday? Or Tuesday? Hmm, just got back from tech, and they're going to send out a new laptop, in hopes that it won't have the stray voltage. So, hopefully it will be shipped out with the grounding adapter. If not, i'll have to ebay it up. Hey Viriiguy, what's the part number on the adapter that you got??? I can't find it on dell, and they can't find it either?
One other thing to note... The adapters that ship with the M1710's should be 130Watt adapters rather than the 90W E1705 adapter. If you are getting 90W 3 prong adapters, then they are from the old i9300 lineup.

I tested all my screws for several times (including the screws around the intel pro wireless card) and I had a voltage (AC) of 0.5. That's pretty normal.

I have a Inspiron 9400 bought in june 2006.

Tomorrow for me will be Wed. As I have stated befor ein the thread, Dell has not sent me ANY grounded adapters yet. They have replaced 2 laptops for this issue. Which of coarse did nothing as the issue was the same. So I do not have a part number off hand for you.

Gosh I can see this on big headlines now at engadget or gizmodo " User gets tazered by notebook lawsuit ensues " followed by a mass recall. Whatever it takes to win I suppose.

LOL

It is not far from the truth However, I suspect with Dell's recent major recall of batteries, they will want to handle this long before it hits the news.

Bah!!! Stupid Network
Tell me about it, I was getting partially tazered last night, I had my laptop on my legs and I could definatly feel the hair sticking up on my legs....it was definatly not a good sign, good thing Dell will be issuing me a new laptop, so I can get a 3-prong from ebay or whatever and start over fresh without having to worry about my computer dieing from stray voltage leaks....
Guys, Looks like engadget has picked up on your "problem"...perhaps this "notoriety"...will pressure dell for a fix:

HOLY CRAP!

ViriiGuy is FAMOUS!!!

YEAH!! Now that's what I like to hear! Public support other places! Now I hope that it spreads like wildfire!!! That's awesome! I sure hope that encourages a longer warranty or something like that for those who own these "ligthing rods" lol, and hopefully that'll help push the 3-prong adapters...i still have no idea why dell hadn't sent those out in the first place....grounding has been a very important fact, and required for many many years! *shakes head*

What number would one call for USA to get a 3 pronged adapter for there laptop mine is only 2 pronged e1705. Please Help thanks.
that's strange. the 9300 came with 3 prong adapters.
I noticed the change from the three to the two prong adapters. However, this does not necesarily fix the issue. I have talked about this for months and here is a recent post on another forum:
http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=13577828

My Wife's 9300 does the same thing. My eMachines A64 notebook does the same thing.

From what I can tell, a lot of notebook manufactures are using some kind of non-conductive coating/paint on their laptops. When this paint becomes chipped or exposed by a screw that isn't covered in the same material, current can flow.

So still beware that even with a three prong adapter, you may be exposed to some shocking, and not the good Wichita State kind.
