I have the M1210 with the SigmaTel C-Major audio, along with possibly the most buggy drivers ever written.
Currently my main concern is trying to record. I plugged a standard mic into the jack on the front and tried recording something. All seemed to be well, apart from the unusually low recording volume (even with mic boost and the mic volume all the way up). Until I noticed that 3 to 10 seconds into the recording, every time, the audio would fade out entirely if the volume fell below a certain threshold. After that only incredibly loud sounds could be recorded until I started recording again.
The problem is not the recording software (Windows Sound Recorder), the mic (I've tested it on a number of systems), or, as far as I know, the audio hardware.
I've also noticed a click on my headphones every time I play any sound, right at the start (like the jack is being activated), and then a click right when the sound finishes. I've noticed that this DOES go away with hacked/improper drivers, but then I'm unable to even detect the mic and a slew of other problems crop up.
Is there anything I can do about this? I've tried reinstalling the drivers countless times, trying other random SigmaTel drivers intended for other chips, even poked at countless registry keys and NOTHING seems to make a difference. Every time I try to record something it fades out entirely after a few seconds, and every time I play a sound I get this slightly audible yet irritating click.

Please respond, this is driving me nuts. I really want to record.
I should also add that I am NOT using Skype and I do NOT have the A/V package. Disabling acoustic echo cancellation in the logitech cam software seems to be the common suggestion, but that is not an option here as I don't have the cam and I don't have the software installed.
