8x DVD drive takes 1.5hrs to burn a DVD - help!

Hi all,

I have a Sony A517b notebook and the dual layer DVD drive is no working properly.

It has an internal Sony DW-Q58A - DVD±RW (+R DL) drive which is an 8X DVD write speed. The problem is that is can take up to 1.5hrs writing a 4Gb DVD video from HDD.

same thing happens when I use NERO or DVD Decrypter.



Here is what I have done so far to troubleshoot. I restored to factory conditions and presto it works. This leads to the conclusion that I have a software/device driver that may be causing the problem. Thats as far as my analysis goes.

How do i resolve the issue now?

I dont understand what you mean. my HDD is 40% full and not defragmented .

There must be something else installed thats causing the problem , and I do not really ready to do a new install as I have lots of other stuff on pc.

I took this to mean that you restored the system to a new virgin state, which is why I was asking about the condition prior to the restore.

Check to see that your drives are not in PIO mode (you want DMA/ultra-DMA.)

Yup thats whats wrong. Go into device manager and manually remove the drive and then re-boot and let windows redect it and it should be fine.
