Fyi...I have got my 9880 working with Vista x64, the new full version (bought it Jan. 30th). I have RAID drivers that are working...as well as wireless drivers that work...which is one thing I know people have been asking about. So here's what I did...the short version...I can clarify as needed.
1. Fresh install Vista x64...boot from disk (disabled card reader in bios...saw in thread...don't know if it makes a difference).
2. It will start the installation and eventually ask you where you want to install...you need to specify RAID drivers...you should be able to find some 64-bit drivers that work...if not, email me and I will send you what I used...really, the deal is, none of the drivers I found are digitally signed...which has presented people with problems because it would install up to the first reboot, and then error out because Microsoft has set up the "require signed drivers" to be on.
3. So, once you find some drivers that will allow you to see your HDs, you can setup however you like and continue installation.
***4. Here's the key. After the first reboot, you will get an error. There should be an option (at least with the recently released Full version) to continue anyway, and you should be able to get to a screen that asks you how you want to boot. This is similiar to when you could pull up the boot option in XP and previous OS's, and boot to DOS or safe mode etc. If you just select boot normal, it will error out again and start #4 over again.
***5. When you get to this screen, you will notice a lot of your standard choices. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN, there is a line that says something like "For additional options" press ??f6? (can't remeber what function # it was, but you get the point).
***6. When you press this, you will see another list of options. One of the options is "Disable driver signing" or something to that effect. Select this and make sure to "boot normally."
Vista should continue installing just fine from here on out!!!
Okay, now on to some of the other drivers. Vista comes with many drivers already ready to go for much of your common hardware:
For example:
1. It had LAN drivers for my 9880.
2. It had bluetooth drivers for my combo card - but I didn't figure out the wireless until later.
3. It had drivers for many common printers, like my HP deskjet 5650.
4. There is a lot of other driver support with Windows Update as well. Just get on there to see what it comes up with.
I don't have a TV tuner so I am unsure about that, and I haven't checked on the WEBcam, but I am pretty sure there are drivers out there for that.
Drivers I had to get:
1. NVIDIA 7800 GTX - got this to work from the following website:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...howtopic=12649
Just read the Quickstart guide (link on that page) and it will tell you how to use their drivers. Basically, you download the driver package and then download a modded .INF file and paste over the original. Worked like a charm.
2. Realtek HD drivers. I can't remember exactly what I did, but I think I either used the XPx64 driver off Sager's website, or I downloaded them from Realtek's website. Either way, I have a driver that works.
***3. Now for the Wireless Compo card (internal mini) driver: INPROCOMM IPN 2220 wirelees PC card - this is what device manager shows in Vista as the description of my card. Here’s what you do. Download the Sager 9750 wireless card for x64 beta. Go to device manager, under other devices, you should see a device called (Ethernet controller). This should be your wireless card, but the system doesn’t recognize it. Right click on it and select “update driver software.” From here, choose to “browse my computer for driver software.” Then choose “let me pick from a list….” Next, select “network adapters” and press “next” and then select “have disk” at the bottom right corner. Navigate to the downloaded 9750 driver folder and select the driver. Install the driver and you should be good to go.
The only major problem I have had with Vista is the new security stuff. I comes up and asks you like every time you want to install something. Sometimes, I get errors saying I am not administrator when I am. I recently download symatec x64 for Vista. In the system tray, it has a slash through it indicating I assume that “AutoProtect” is off. Yet when I actually open the software, it shows it to be on. However, Windows Security Center shows it to be off, and when I try to turn it on, it says I don’t have the right priveledges. So, I don’t know what is going on with that, but…
I hope all this helps.
I’m out.
