m1210 + games +......Vista?

Been waiting for my upgrade disk form Dell and wondering to install or wait. I have quite a few games installed like:

Oblivion
Dreamfall
BF 2142
Counter Strike SOurce

and some others. Has anyone tried actual gaming with the new OS. I know peeps are getting 3.3-3.4 on the Vista tester but that doesnt really mean anything to me. She can look like a "10" but if she dont play than whats the point?

Any sage words of wisdom from the NBF'ers?

thanks

I'd wait until more reliable and Vista optimized drivers are made available if you are gaming... I've heard from several that gaming so far is slower using Vista (when you are playing with a 'low end' card like the 7400go I'd be hesitant to sacrifice even a small percentage of my FPS). Then again, this may not improve considering you have to load the 3d desktop all the time, it may stay a little slower than XP for <DX10 games. But when the DX10 games start flowing you'll have to make the switch.

Gaming is slower on Vista at this point. I wouldn't expect any real changes until SP1.

Go partition your HD and reinstall XP, for a dual boot config when you get your Vista CD. Then you can play around with Vista but when you play games, you will most certainly want to be on XP.

For me, it seems the same. And in the case of Grand Theft Auto SA, it got MUCH faster with vista for some reason.

Vista will automatically disable Aero when you start a game.

hey all, thanks for the info. I have thought about ForceCaliburs suggestion but I have a home machine with all the same software and a much nicer vid card so I might just use the m1210 as a testing ground for my software and such to see what works.

I have no great love for Vista but I am still curious,

thanks again

I believe this will not work. Apparently when you use a Vista upgrade CD, the XP key is invalidated so you will be forced to use Vista only and cannot revert back to XP.

wahhh? G-DDA_N THE MICROSHAFT EULA,

they sure know how to make this less and less appealing. However, I have to ask, do you have a reference for this info or is it hearsay?

It will let you dual boot. I did it with ultimate that I got this weekend for my desktop. I also dual boot on my E1705 with RC2. It is not hard.

Just put it on another partition or drive.

Separate drives in my case.

If you only have the Upgrade... just install 2 x Windows XP on two different partitions, and then upgrade one of them, and your all set.

Please note you can use your upgrade version of Vista as a full version with the workaround , just Google it and you will see how simple it really is....it will save you some serious cash.....
