How to Enable Multi Speaker Support

To get my four speakers to work, I had to change the environment in the AC97 Audio Configuration. I changed the environment to auditorium and change speaker configuration to 4 channel (I do not have the sub-woofer.)

Did anyone else have to do this?

When you turn your 8790 over on its back, and look at the very left side of it, isnt that a sub? Okay okay let me include a pic: hmmm hmmmm whats that on the VERY uper left corner? It looks like a sub to me just like the one on the 4780..... no point in ordering that other one.

No, that space is taken up by the 7-in-1 readers. The subwoofer is changed/in out by using the 8 cell battery and not the TV Tuner.

You are looking at a Pre-cut vent that I suppose could be used for a sub-woofer by another OEM or Clevos model.

oh okay, adam must have gotten a "special" model like always.....

I didn't remember Adam pointing that out as the subwoofer. Where did I miss this? Please provide me the link. Thanks.

Please don't compare the 4780 and 8790 from external picture and draw conclusion from those observations as they will most likely be wrong or misleading. From the external view one can not "see" the sub-woofer at all. All that can be seen is a "cutout" and that could be a very, and air intake, or just "holes" in the template. Now there are some OEM's that claim that a subwoofer and TV Tuner can be used together; however, they have an internal 6-in-1 reader rather than the 7-in-1 reader that comes with the 8790.

If you run the "Test" do you get 4 independant speakers? It sounds like all four of mine are working but share a channel

I have the configuration set for 5.1 / 6 speaker, and all seems to be working. I also have set the environment on auditorium.

When I boot up into windows, I get a popping sound {just 1 pop}, otherwise the sound quality on is good. I'm going to download the latest realtek drivers and see if that makes a difference.

That environment gives a strong echo or reverb, the bottom setting in EDIT takes it away BUT you then lose the extra speakers? I'm waiting to try the test on a DVD, I think the test program is off. Any Help from the experts? New drivers ect.
I did notice that the rear speakers in the test came on when I enabled the SPDIF settings.

I can't seem to get the subwoofer to work and only 2 ch. speakers

Help! I have the optional subwoofer installed and it doesn't seem to work at all. I'm also only able to get 2 ch. [L-R] working on the 8790. Isn't it 4ch???

16Place: If you haven't done this go to control panel, then to Sound Effects Manager, then Sound Effect Tab / Environment, and select your sound environment. Then go to Speaker Configuration, and select 6 channel mode for 5.1, then go to speaker test and click/double click on each speaker to see if their working, as a further test go to HRTF demo and play the test loop.
