I9300 wont do anything

i boot it up and desktop comes up but the start button is gone its just a blue bar down there all the way across it says its thinking everytime i scroll over it

well that was the first problem now i cant get the durn thing to go pas the welcome screen

Have you tried booting into safe mode? maybe boot from a restore point. kinda sounds like a boot virus. Try windows defender and see if it catches anything

It definitely stinks of a potential virus.

When you get into windows, hold down the CTRL key and then hit ESC. This should forced your start menu to appear. if it doesn't, you are likely infected. Boot into safe mode with networking, and pray it works there. If you get internet access, go to trend micro's site and run their free online scan. Download the trial of spysweeper (webroot) and run that. Kill anything these scans find (they're good scanners).

If it still doesn't, seek professional geek help to have them perform a removal or (gasp) a WNR (wipe and restore).

Looks like everyone before me covered most the bases already.

Booting into safe-mode and running System Restore to try and get back to a working configuration would be the first thing I would try.

You might also try booting from the Windows CD to try repairing Windows. Unfortunately, it might not help and there is a small chance you might loose some of your data, but it is another option. If you have data you don't want to lose I would highly recommend connecting the hard drive up as a secondary to a computer with good virus protection to back up your data.

If there is nothing on the hard drive you have to save you might consider just using the Image Restore (aka PC Restore) option to reload the Dell factory image. To do this, just press CTRL+F11 just after powering on the computer and it will wipe all the data from your hard drive and reload the factory image.
