Amilo 3438g - Aghhh! Help! I think my graphics card is dead

Thread Starter
Hello,

My laptop has been working perfectly for the last few months, up to this morning it was working fine, but when got home and turned it on, it booted up okay, but after, the screen flickered to a black screen every time i moved the cursor or when i click on something or do anything, the screen stutters and flickers black and then comes back after a second... it's like it flickers after every movement. And if i open up a window or click on the start menu or anything... the screen flickers black and then screen starts garbling up, its like its not refreshing properly (bits of window are still on the desktop even when i tried to close them). I don't think its a problem with the lcd screen because when the graphics driver is uninstalled (or in safe mode), no flickering.

Also, I've noticed that the Windows xp splash screen (while xp is booting up) doesn't look quite right, like its very very slighty garbled. I don't know if this means anything.

I've tried doing a clean install of xp, but it doesn't help, when the graphics drivers are reinstalled, i get the same problem.

The laptop is completely unusable at the moment, and the most annoying thing is that it's only a couple of months out of warranty! (its only about 14 months old!!)

Please help me, I freaking out as i've spent quite a lot of money (for me anyway) on this thing.

thanks in advance.

P.S. This has also been posted on the FS forum (Need all the help i can get!)

. meaning graphic garbage after a driver installation?

cheers ...

No, just screen flickering while using it. Drivers are correct, it's a hardware problem.
2 laptops in the same conditions, no clues, no answers, no solution just I have to pray and stay still each time I use the computer.

Screen problem

Hi there ! Did you try with an external monitor ? if its the same with ext. monitor it means graphic card is bad and unfortunately, graphic card is the part of the systemboard which is a bit expensive. If it works fine with ext. monitor it means your Invertor Card (located at bottom of lcd under fujitsu logo on lcd bazel) is bad which is not expensive. Replacing the card can resolve the issue. Warranty : if you never took it to the Service Center during it warranty period you can call fujitsu and get Exception Repair on this event or they can extend warranty for 2 more weeks. Better try this and send them machine or immediately take it to the Fujitsu Authrozed Service Provider in your area. Good Luck Nazir

Hi there !

Unfortunately, graphic card is part of Systemboard which is very expensive, Im think your systemboard is getting ESD from the bottom cover. Reseating of the system board can resolve the issue.
