i am thinking about getting a m5790. for about 2600, 2900 shipped with tax, i can get this:
2.16ghz c2d
wuxga lcd
1gb ram
vista home premium
radeon mobility x1900
100gb 7200rpm hdd
razer copperhead mouse-red

i will be buying 2gb ram from newegg.
also, does any1 know how the financing works? because 90/month is more pleasing to my ears than almost 3g's.
does any1 have one? does any1 know of any reviews?
thanks

The 5790 is new, and I don't believe anyone has received one yet. The 5750 received lots of positive reviews, so I imagine the 5790 will be even better given the improved specs.

Regarding financing, I've not used it but lots of people here have. I'd suggest you fill in all your paperwork quickly (e.g. don't wait til you are ready to order), and keep following up with Alienware to make sure they have processed everything.

Good Luck with your decision process!

Why get 1 gig and then upgrade to 2? AW will ship it with 2 x 512 to utilize dual channel, so why not get 512 and save more money?

So why order 1 gig when you could order 512, and save money?

AW financing I think has a pretty high interest rate, if you can get a lower rate credit card that might be the way to go.

512MB isn't an option when configuring. You can't order anything less than 1GB.

Unless you qualify for no interest financing, than it is no interest for a year, assuming you WILL pay it off in a year. If you cant/dont pay it off in a year, they add the interest from that year to your debt.

edit: This is both a reply and an addition to HHs post.

About the financing, I'm a little supprised that you don't know how financing works, and they have a link on Alienware's site that explains their program. (http://www.alienware.com/sub_pages/financing.aspx)

But to save time, I'll tell you. I don't know how long their financing lasts, but that's not important. What is important is that the APR is 21.9%, which means that by the time your done paying for it, you'll be paying about $650 extra (for a $2900 laptop), just because you didn't buy it all at once. In short, financing should only be considered if you really need something right away or you can't afford to pay it all at once. (this applies elsewhere in life too)

PS. I'm in high school and probably shouldn't have to be telling you this...
