Vista Sleep Problems

post #1 of 10

I just installed Vista Home Premium yesterday and every time i put it into sleep mode a couple minutes later it will wake up for about a minute and then go back to sleep on its own. Is anyone else having this problem?

Nope. Not on my Gen2 and m170. Is this on a perfectly clean install, or did you install some drivers or applications? I went through the details of the Power Configuration to tweak it how I want it. Maybe you have an attached device that's waking up the computer?

Yes its a clean install. The only two things I have connected are my mouse and my printer.

Is the mouse set in device manager to be able to wake the computer from standby?

I don't see in device manager anything about standby. What exactly are you talking about?

Oh, I forgot that I also have a flash drive running readyboast plugged in.

I have a ReadyBoost flash drive plugged in, too.

If you open Device Manager, expand the Mice and Other Pointing Devices entry. Double click your mouse (or both 'mice'.) If the system will allow the device to wake the computer from Standby, there will be a Power Management tab with choices about when the device can wake the computer.

There is no Power Management tab but under the details tab on the drop down menu there is a "Power data" selection. It says:

Current power state:
D0

Power capabilities:
0000007F
PDCAP_D0_SUPPORTED
PDCAP_D1_SUPPORTED
PDCAP_D2_SUPPORTED
PDCAP_D3_SUPPORTED
PDCAP_WAKE_FROM_D0_SUPPORTED
PDCAP_WAKE_FROM_D1_SUPPORTED
PDCAP_WAKE_FROM_D2_SUPPORTED

Power state mappings:
S0 -> D0
S1 -> D3
S2 -> D3
S3 -> D3
S4 -> D3
S5 -> D3

I cant change these settings though.

I think I found the problem. In device manager under my network card settings there was an option called "Wake Up Capabilities". It was set to "both". I set it to "none". Hopefully this will prevent my PC from waking up from sleep on its own now.
