Sager 9860 motherboard fix - Blue power light but nothing else? I fixed mine!

Guess what guys? I'm new to sager and just traded with a friend for his 9860 a week ago, it was working flawlessly until this morning. I would turn it on, the blue light would glow around the power button, but nothing else. No Time in the front display (note this it is important). Having repaired a few laptops in the past, I proceeded to apply pressure in a few places to see if any part of the laptop became intermittent from heat expansion. One place in particular produced a result. Just above 'F10', if I would press it, let go, then turn it on, the blue light would come on and the front clock would kick in. On rare occasion, the computer would even boot, but rarely. When the computer did boot, it would hard lock in 15 minutes, max. So I took the machine apart, cleaned out all the vents, replaced the CPU thermal compound, and look closely to the area around the 'F10' key. I noticed some yellow goop around the pins where the power comes in and below the fuses. I proceeded to clean it up and re-solder each fuse. I also re-soldered the pins from the power input. After that, the machine came on 6 out of 6 times, played a 3d game for over an hour, it was great! BUT. When I put everything back together, I was back to only a blue light. Removed the keyboard, lightly pressed on that area, and it was up again. That area holds the CPU on the underside so it gets warm fast. The problem is the heat is causing something to become disconnected there. If we work on this a bit more, I bet we can isolate the part and have a perm fix. If anyone has had the Sager RMAd, and fully working, plus doesn't mind taking their machine apart, it would be great to have pics on both sides to see if they have changed any parts from the standard setup.

A fix is coming, want proof? I posted this with the same sager that was dead this morning.

I've had a dead Sager 9860 since June of '06. I bought it in May of '05... and, NO! I did not buy the extended warranty. I just read this thread, looked to my left at the big silver paperweight and thought what the hell...opened her up, pressed on the area right above F10 with my fingertips, applied a decent amount of force, and then plugged her in. What do you know? It booted on the first try. I'm ecstatic. It powered on, POSTed, the front clock came on and actually showed the correct time. I saw the Sager screen and then it went to a "no OS found" message. I have had the hard drive in a USB case so I could access my data and use it as a 60GB portable drive. It's too late here to work on it now, but tomorrow I'm definitely thinking of performing surgery. I'll post my results later after re-assembly. This could save me 800 bucks!!

Well, I put the HD back in this morning. Now it won't boot at all again... been pressing all around F10, even popped the keyboard up and pressed on the metal plate underneath a bit and no luck....sigh. I suppose I'll be getting an RMA from Sager. I finally have the means to spend $800+ if necessary so I'm just gonna bite the bullet and pray the new MOBO doesn't go belly up any time soon. I still may take it apart this weekend and see what I can see. I will post again.

My Alienware m7700 has been sitting around in a drawer for several months now because It would only boot up once a week, the rest of the time it would turn on, but the screen would not come up. I thought that it was the graphics card over heating (because the fan on top of my graphics card isn't working) so I would let it cool, and it seemed that after several days, it would turn on again. But I ran into this post and I thought, well what the heck, lets give that a try....... Who would have thought, It turned right on!!! I then turned it off, and tried it again without pushing there, and it wouldn't start, then I tried it again by pushing there and it did start. Sadly the reason its been sitting around is because my warranty was up. I finally have come up with the money to send it back to alienware and have it repaired, but I feel like I'm getting ripped off. If there is enough people out there with this same problem, why didn't Clevo RECALL THE MOTHERBOARD, we all know that they don't make that motherboard anymore because they came out with the version 6.1 and they came out with that because they knew there was this heat issue. I already argued with alienware but they claim its not an official issue. I plan on contacting Clevo and asking them why they had to make a new version of the motherboard, and why they did no recall the old ones. If something goes wrong in a car, the car manufacturer has to recall every car that they think might have been effected, even if its old and out of warranty, why don't computer companies have to do that too? I just don't want to have to drop $800 on getting this fixed!!!! if any of you have already contacted clevo I would love to have you send me a message about what they said, I need all the references I can get. I feel ripped off. Thanks!
