Question: Vista Ultimate Retail with HP Serial

Thread Starter
My friend bought Vista ultimate. I just bought a DV9000t with Vista Ultimate preloaded on it. If I format and load my friends Ultimate disc on it, can I use my Vista Ultimate Serial provided by HP to install so I am guaranteed a true Clean install rather than using the dvd image provided by HP which has bloatware on it?

Also, Where Can I find my Vista Ultimate serial from HP?

Will this work? Feedback please.

if u bought the laptop preloaded, the serial should be within ur receipt/invoice
what is important is the COA underneath ur laptop

i would not recommend, at this stage of vista, to wipe ur system clean and do a fresh.install as in XP, u'd have a heck of a time to get the "right.mix" drivers to get the laptop going

cheers ...

IIRC the serial # is built into the notebooks bios which is why you don't need to enter it when doing an install or recovery.

Also, as mentioned, your best off to use the preloaded software so your guarenteed to have the right notebook drivers.

It's my understanding that you cannot use the OEM Vista key which came with your DV9000t with a retail version of Vista. You need to purchase a full or upgrade copy. BTW the key should be on a sticker on the bottom of your machine. I am in the same boat, the bloatware is ridiculous. I bought a upgrade copy of Vista to load on to my dv6000t. z
