I have a Thinkpad A31 running Windows XP SP2. Although I didn't knowingly install any new software, I no longer have sound on my system. Everything was fine on Saturday, then sometime that evening I went to play an MP3 and there was no sound.. I can run Windows Media Player and play a CD and it doesn't indicate there are problems, but there is no sound, as if I'd muted the speakers. I have upgraded to the latest Soundmax drivers but I still see the same behavior. Interestingly, the one sound I hear is a beep when I click on the volume control slide. That beep can be heard over the headphones if they're plugged in. I've tried disabling then reenabling the device. But that doesn't help. Any suggestions on what else I should try?
