I bit the bullet and bought the Ferrari 5000 the end of December. Generally, I'm pleased -- a much better computer than the 4000 I looked at a year ago.

However, I've discovered that my external USB 2.0 hard drive performance sucks. As a photographer, I use a lot of small, USB pocket hard drive to temporarily store my shoots on. While working on a recent job, I was frustrated how slowly files were copying from one drive to another. I loaded a great HD benchmark program, HD Tach, and of course I had crappy performance. The dirves couldn't even break 10MB/sec, no matter which port I used, or which drive. (Usually around 8.5 to 9.5MB/sec.) These very same drives on my desktop and two older Sagers (one a year, the other four years old) have average data throughput speeds of about 28MB/sec -- where they should be!

Has anyone experienced this kind of performance drop? Did you find a fix, other than sending the notebook back to Acer. At least this go 'round, I opted for the two year extended warranty! This does not make me happy to have my old Sagers smoke the Ferrari in this. Not hat I expect from a "performance" notebook.
