M1210 + lite scribe DVD burners possible?

I see I can get the M1210 with a dvd burner, but is there any DVD burners with lite scribe that will fit and be 100% compatible with the M1210?

Any of them for Laptops should work without a problem. The faceplate won't be an EXACT match to the M1210 but it'll be close.

Someone told me that the M1210 has to be ordered with the drive you want, because it is not removable. Is this not true? How much effort is involved in swapping the drives?

Everything is removable. There are screws that you have to unscrew.

Should just be one screw on the bottom of the laptop and then you can slide the Optical drive right out. There's a little ear on the back of the original drive you'll need to attach to your new drive.

How do I know what drive will be compatible with the M1210? I would want it to match the size perfectly but as long as the color is pretty close I would be happy.

Any SLIM drive will fit.

I am at pricewatch.com but do not see any slim drives with lite scribe

Of course you cannot find it because up to now, HP still owns the exclusive rights to offer Lightscribe drives for laptops..... there are 1 or 2 guys selling them on ebay though....

I found them on ebay. It is actually a toshiba drive I found. Here is what Dell models it says it fits in.
  • DELL Inspiron 8000, 8200, 8600
  • Dell Latitude D600, X300
  • DELL Precision M50, M60
the m1210 is not listed though.

Some people are saying any slim drive will fit, but the more I look into it the more it looks like they are different?
They are NOT different. I work on these Laptops for a living. The only difference is that the Dell faceplate is slightly oversized vs a standard slim drive. Just because the eBay seller does not list your model does not mean it will not work. It could be he's seeding his auction with popular model numbers to attract bidders or those were the only configurations he'd tested. A Lightscribe Slim DVD-RW drive will work in your M1210.

Has anyone actually successfully burned a lightscribe disc in a dell laptop?? (actually lightscribed on a side)

There's absolutely no reason it won't work. Just pop in the drive, pop in your labeling software and go. There's a great deal of Lightscribe burners for desktops and they work fine too.

I'd also make sure to get a drive that's LIGHTSCRIBE not LabelFlash. They both are the same thing, but neither is compatible with the other on the label side (data side there's no difference) With LabelFlash Fujifilm is the ONLY media provider while there are several companies selling LS media.
