Question on uninstalling a manually installed program???

I installed Tomboy Notes manually, and i cant seem to get it to work right. I got to uninstall it via the ad/remove application, and it says that i cannot since it has dependencies that others rely upon, and to check with the synaptic package manager. So i do and it says that "ubuntu-desktop" will be effected if i uninstall it.....

is this bad? if i uninstall it will it be fine, or will my system stop working?

Its been a while since i dealt with synaptic, can you not uninstall it and leave the dependencies?

no i couldnt, i went over to the Ubuntu help forums and found out that "ubuntu-desktop" is not a critical program, and i could uninstall the program i wanted and the ubuntu-desktop then just reinstall ubuntu-desktop.

ubuntu-desktop is a meta program that is simply a quick and easy way for synaptic to install all the base progrs needed for a gnome ubuntu desktop. YES..you could remove it. BUT i wouldn't recommend it in terms of doing future apt-get upgrades. I mean how much hdd space does tomboy take anyway, would it really kill you to just let it be?
