Vista is SLOW on my 5680 HELP!? - Page 3

I'd think the extra 512mb of ram would smooth things out some for you, though not to xp levels

The "feel" issues would be less, though there is no doubt it uses much more of your system.

I am still curious as to the exact model of the drive.....try downloading everest home from www.oldversion.com and see if you can get a model number

Perhaps you are very fragmented, or your swap file is fragmented and quite large due to the lower memory quantity.

That should be a fairly fast drive, in fact, for a 5400rpm drive with 8mb, it should be faster than mine.

hmm

It's regularly defragged, has 25 gb free of 40gb. Plus there's a 1gb sandisk rb stuck in it.

no idea then....any errors in event monitor in system or application logs?

Not really, just the usual drivers caused the system to sleep slower than expected, wake slower than expected, etc. This one happens alot:

This process is doing excessive disk activities and is impacting the performance of Windows:
File Name:\Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows\explorer.exe or search indexer or iexplore,... all of them
Friendly Name:Windows Explorer
Version:6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205)
Thread time:7261ms
Blocked Time:1326ms
Incident Time (UTC):2/16/2007 2:50:52 AM

Warnings:

The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention.
Scenario: The Desktop Window Manager responsiveness has degraded.

Stuff like this:

This service caused a delay in the system shutdown process:
File Name:AudioEndpointBuilder
Friendly Name:Windows Audio Service
Version:6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205)
Total Time:10747ms
Degradation Time:3510ms
Incident Time (UTC):2/14/2007 7:15:42 PM

or:

This driver is using up too many resources and is impacting the performance of Windows:
File Name:\SystemRoot\System32\drivers\USBPORT.SYS
Friendly Name:USB 1.1 & 2.0 Port Driver
Version:6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205)

lol:

Information about the system performance monitoring event:
Scenario:System Responsiveness
Analysis result:Analysis could not be performed in time. There is a possible serious performance issue

Gotta love this one:

Information about the system performance monitoring event:
Scenario:System Responsiveness
Analysis result:Analysis was successful and rootcauses were found

Can someone please email me the BIOS for the 5680 to mistere2@gmail.com

Thanks..

Trying to get vista up and running and it's been a pain, but I know I am using a old BIOS, so this might help anyway.

Thanks again,
Mister E

They need to help address this, but I have a feeling that because it might cost them a few bucks to write a driver, they will not.
I have a 5680 that I purchased in 2004 and I just upgraded to Vista. Everything works great. I did have to upgrade the memory to 1gb. I just took one of the 256mb chips out and installed a 1gb chip giving me a total of 1256mb. (both slots must have a chip in it or it won't work right) I also upgraded my HD to a 120gb drive. Additionally, I upgraded the CD drive to a CD/DVD writer though I probably didn't need to to run Vista. So far, Vista is the best operating system that Microsoft makes. My computer runs it very well with speed to spare!
