I forgot to order my dell 1210 with the bluetooth option. is it hard to install this myself if i bought the card from best buy?

also, does this allow me to transfer music and photos from my phone to my computer?

you can install a bluetooth device yourself. this one is pretty cool>> http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?...tk=all&An=text
if your phone has bluetooth, i dont see why you couldnt move info from your phone to your pc and vice versa. installation should be easy as are most device installations these days.
take a good read of your phone's manual and the bluetooth device to explore the possibilities of your bluetooth devices.

my phone does have bluetooth, but I didnt wanna buy a memory card + memory card reader. bluetooth would allow me to transfer music and photos faster. The bluetooth device dell was selling is internal. does it really matter if its internal or external

sry, that link's not opening up for me.

Here's a list of Bluetooth dongles from NewEgg. http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Su...&ATT=Bluetooth

Doesn't matter if it's USB or internal, as long as it's a radio device, it will pick up other bluetooth devices, including other bluetooth connected hard drives, phones and laptops.

Honestly, i would recommend just ordering the internal part for your Dell - it's quite easy to install, and if it's anything like my older Dell XPS, the internal card fits into a little slot near the battery. Just remove the battery, and pop the bluetooth device in. did it myself - very simple.

from what i've read and understood, this usb device takes the place of a wire on a wired headphone set. i guess if you have a bluetooth headphone, you can use this device to connect wirelessly to your pc. it doesnt say anything about networking your pc or allowing you to download/upload files to either pc or phone.

I don't know how much Dell currently sells their internal devices for, but mine a year and a half ago was $29.99, so I'd call 'em up and ask for a part number that's compatible with your 1210. That wireless Galaxy selection looks fine, I'm just not a fan of the dongle. If it's an internal option, I'd go with that.

there's no software or drivers to manually install. Once you plug it in, internal or USB, it just goes. It will place a bluetooth icon in your control panel, and on in you taskbar tray on the right hand side if you want, and you can check the properties of the connection, what objects are "found", or connected to the device, other tabbed features like"options", "COM ports", and Hardware information.

hey guys i got q quick question while we are on this topic

does internal bluetooth mean less battery life than usb dongle?

i assume that the dongle you just take out when you dont need it, and thus save the battery life on laptop
but with internal, it always takes power..am i right or wrong?

You could always shut it off and save power. Either use the switch or hotkey on the laptop to turn it off. If your laptop doesn't have one, then you can always disable the hardware in the device manager.
