Vista performance on E1505

Just installed Vista Business on my E1505, went with the upgrade over the clean install simply to see how it would perform....I did a clean install with my Desktop using Vista Ultimate which performs perfectly....The upgrade did take quite a while as compared to the clean install, but thats to be expected, Vista setup did find a single issue that had to be addressed before it would install and that was Nero, seems vista does not like Nero,or my version anyway, I uninstalled Nero and proceeded with the upgrade without any further problems, after the upgrade was completed Vista updated all the drivers it could find and informed me that my version of ATI Catalyst was not compatible, so I downloaded the latest Vista one from the Dell Website and was good to go..Laptop is performing smooth and flawless, no slowdowns whatsoever thus far, Had Half Life 2 installed on my Laptop and it actually ran better than it did under XP.....My system performance was measured at 3.7 using the built in Vista Test program, considering my 5.6 Desktop score not to shabby...All in all very pleased thus far with the upgrade...Dell has seen fit to provide lots of updated drivers for vista on the website including a new chipset as well as BIOS Downloads... I think Vista is a keeper....

I am still waiting for my upgrade to come (Vista Premium) from dell. Im glad to see everything worked out and I might just join the vista camp soon. I wanted to run my MCE for a little longer as I love it and never have problems with that OS. I use my laptop as a media center extender, did the media center in vista keep all the information intact? If you dont use your laptop as an extender than nevermind.

I also have a E1505, but I am also waiting till the bugs are fixed and stuff then I will buy home premium. I also want to upgrade to 2GB instead of 1GB even though it says 1GB is enough. I run a lot of games on here and so 2GB sounds like it would suit me better.

Im running Vista Ultimate and my E1505 is starting to chug a little after installing all my programs. Takes longer to boot and also had a few freezes already. My score was also 3.7. Im running 1GB of RAM but I highly recommend going 2GB for smoother operation. A lot of my programs are not compatible like my Zonealarm, Nero, and several important programs so Im switching back to XP Pro until they work out the bugs. I really like Vista and the new look and features but Im just going to wait awhile longer before using it.

I have the same notebook as you... If you think you haven't seen any slowdown, you'd better check your watch. It's definitely slower... considerably slower. Why anyone would want Vista on anything but a high end machine is beyond me. I've yet figure out what is supposed to be better about it. It has a few minor feature updates but for the most part it's just bells and whistles. I guess MS had to do something, even if it was wrong to try to keep up with Apple. Of course if you don't do any work with it I guess you could say that it looks nice...

I have to say that after 2 weeks of running Vita I have noticed no slowdowns at all, I find it quite a bit faster and smoother than my previous XP install, Nero issue was resolved with the latest update, ATI has issued the latest 7.2 CATS which improved performance, my home Wireless Network has performed flawless with vista, all my DVD authoring programs work perfectly as well ...No complaints thus far, and I see no problems down the road....same holds true for my desktop, zero problems.....

I just order a 640m, 2ghz t7200, 7200rpm drive, 1gb 677 ram. It was like 350 AUD more for 2gb ram which i could not affoard. And I aint gonna play games never, so i went for 640m (would upgrade to 2gb later when I have more money). So given my system, Would vista basic run faster compared to vista premium with 1gb ram?
