from dvdrw to MBP slow!!!! ???

well i had a mb before this. and now i have this nice new mbp.

anyways. no matter if i use the internal or an external fw400 dvdrw drive, the mbp goes 2MB/s transfer to the internal mbp HD. even if i transfer it to the external 200gb hd i have, its still slow.

low and behold, i plug the fw400 dvdrw into my old mb, and it goes about 10MB/s

what gives? when using the pro, and either dvd drive, the dvd never really starts spinning up fast, like on the mb.

i thought these pro's were supposed to be a better solution, this just seems like a reversal to me

I don't know why...I know the firewire on my PowerBook seems glacially slow. It should take less than an hour to transfer 80 gigs of data but it's taken upwards of 5 to 6 hours before.

Moved to support.

Took me 5hrs to do 160GB to a USB 2.0 external hard drive dont use FW that much altho my ext has it.

Never had an issue like that tho.

its got to be a hardware issue with my mbp i think. any dvd i use, no matter internal superdrive or external fw/usb dvdrw goes mega slow.

what do i do?

What Burn app are you using?

older versions of toast use Rosetta I believe.

lets go from there

this is not burning anything.

this is simply copying data off of a cd/dvd.

2MB/s max

Does it happen with all discs? or is it just dirty ones? I have seen recently a few Macbook pro's with bunk optical drives

ive tried various stuff. cdr's, dvdr+-'s

some are shoddy brands, no names, but others like my ridata should do more than 2MB/s

it seems to be the drive. what can i tell apple? anything?
