Latitude C840 Won't Boot

I have a latitude C840 that won't boot. When I press the power button, the LED's light up for a few seconds, then just shut back off, no fan, no HD spin, nothing on the display. The batteries still are able to be charged. A couple of people have told me that simply replacing the fan assembly may fix the problem, and I do remember the fan sometimes making strange noised in the few weeks leading up to the problem. I'm wondering if this sounds like a viable option before I drop the 30 bucks for a new fan assembly. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Having a dead fan assembly wouldnt prevent the system from turning on. This is more than likely either a CPU or Motherboard related issue which is WAY more than 30 bucks for a C840 AKA Inspiron 8200. You may want to consider opening up the system to try reseating the CPU see if that will fix things (Although Im sure its probabaly not going to help at all) This is a free and fairly painfree method because at this point you will have to drop more money to know which part is bad.

pull the ram and see if you get a POST error code first before searching for a new board.

Yeah I would say this is a ram issue. If you have two chunks of ram, pull one out and boot with each one individualy. I had this same issue with my 9300.
