new macbook with dead pixels

Hi folks,
Im a switcher i posted a thread on here a few days ago about whihc macbook to buy. Well i received it this morning, opened it up and sadly it had two dead pixels right in the centre of the screen. Well i purchased it through the apple store online and they are refusing to exchange it. I asked for a refund with the purpose of re-buying hopefully a machine with no dead pixels. They want a £60.00 ( roughly $120.00 ) "restocking" fee. This sucks guys their terms differ to their instore policies. My friend had the same problem and apple refunded him in store with no restock charge and he was as happy as pie.

Hi guys just a quick update, the sales support team agreed to exchange the item after about 5 or 6 different calls to various people. It pays to be persistent! Heres hoping the new one is fine

Just in case you see the same thing with the replacement, sometimes it's not dead pixels but rather stuck.

If they're indeed dead pixels then you cannot do anything about them except getting it replaced as you already did but stuck pixels look like dead ones only they can be revived using various methods.

The one that's worked for me is UDPixel (here). It's for PC and runs under XP and Vista but I was told by the author of the program that a user informed him that he/she was able to run it in OSX using Mono Project (I don't know much about it but looks to be a system to run applications requiring .NET framework on non-MSFT platforms such as a Mac).

I've had really good luck using this program to unstuck a number of pixels on at least two large LCDs of mine. I highly recommend it. In case it doesn't work out for you using OSX you can always use bootcamp and XP and run it from there.

thanks for the advice I did try some programs to see whether it was stuck but it was definifetly dead to begin with. The pixel was black. I'm just hoping the new one is fine surely apple could introduce some sort of pixel check before sale to ensure the screen is fine even if it means charging a little extra. A lot of companies in the UK provide the service for windows laptops.
