I am eager to see some pics of the 5790. I'm so amped to get mine!

I thought I read somewhere that the keyboard was slightly backlit? As I type this response, I'm using my mom's Dell Inspiron 6400. And if I'm using the laptop in a dark room (much like I am now), sometimes I can't see certain keys I'm looking for, because my eyes are so adjusted to the bright screen, where I can't see some of the keys I'm looking for. I can type just fine without looking, but sometimes I need to use a special character, and it takes me 2 or 3 tries to find it without looking closely at the keyboard, or closing the screen a bit to shed some light on the keys.

Basically, what I'm asking is, can you see the keys in the dark? Or do you have to get in close for a good look?

I'm pleased to see that you aren't having any real issues with it right out of the box. Has it overheated on you and shut itself off? I read that some people were having heat/shutdown issues on other models. But Alienware may have fixed the shutdowns with a BIOS update. I'm just slightly concerned about my 5790, as I'm spending $2,500 on it (I'm a full time college student and part time web designer) and I need my 5790 to work flawlessly. I'll hopefully receieve it over spring break, that way I can have ample time to stay up all night playing with it before I gotta start lugging it back and forth to work.

Would you say it's portable? And, I think I read that you bought the Odyssey backpack. How does it fit in it? Is there plenty of room for cables, headphones, a mouse, and some other stuff?

Sorry if that's a lot of questions. I'm a first time laptop buyer, and it's quite an investment for me. I just want to make sure it's perfect.

That was a rather long winded reply. I only meant to type a couple lines, heh.

nice machine and great review
also i would like to know, if it is right to get the m5790 now?
or keep waiting for the m9750?
does anyone know if the m9750 will come out with the ROSA?

I guess it all depends on what you wanna use it for. I went with 5790 because I was on a slight budget. I play games, but, I'm not a hardcore gamer. Sometimes I go months without playing a game. So, I didn't really see it necessary to go all out on graphics capability. I do however, do a lot of web design and graphic design, use Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, and some 3d modeling. So I wanted to get a laptop that could keep up with what I'm doing.

If killer graphics is what you want, then, yea, it might be worth it to wait for the 9750. Or, if you're looking for a laptop that can do some hardcore multitasking, then I would assume the 5790 is for you.

It all comes down to what you're gonna be using it for, and of course, the budget you have to work with.

Sub could you pls help me install xp home sp1 on my m5790?
I'm trying to use this as a video editing notebook then for games.

I've done the initial beginners steps. Firstly I had to break the RAID0 so that I could use the second drive as an av drive. Then I reinstalled vista on first drive. The big problem is that vista is giving me a headache with the amount of bugs. Also some of my registered programs such as adobe encore 1.5 are no longer supported and I cant afford the upgrades.

I dont have the xp recovery cd that u had cos mine shipped with the ones for vista. graphics card is an x1800. I'll probably need to buy an external floppy and alot of help from you to do this.

Thanks

Easy.

1) Your using VIsta, I used Windows XP. XP > VIsta in ALL Game benchmarks.

2) Your using the x64 Vista, which makes it even worse.

If your a gamer, use XP right now. Vista wont be gaming true until i say end of next year. Dx 10 v.2 boards out and such. Right now its too much a hog. I heasr Vista sp1 speeds vista up SIGNIFIGANTLY too. So wait for that.
