VERY Loud Vibration from DVD-RW Drive during installations

Thread Starter
There's an unbearably loud vibration noise/rattle/hum which the DVD-rw drive on my new Inspiron 6400 gives off while installing programs. The whole laptop literally vibrates. It sounds like an airplane about ready to take off. Normal? Defective Drive?

What next?

thanks,
Erin Cox-Holmes

hey, I sometimes have the same problem. I have certain stuff when I install them the DVDRW vibrates. I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Some here have found that removing the drive and re-installing it can help.

I can deal with the noise in vibration. It doesn't seem to be doing anything to my disks. I don't want to mess anything else up on my computer.

Kinda sounds like warped discs. Does it do it when watching dvd or cd? I had some cheap cdrw discs from imation do this in my desktop. Oh and if you want to remove the drive and reinstall it there is only one screw holding it in.
