Time for a new battery? 57% wear!

I've only just heard about this Notebook Hardware Control. When I ran it, I found that my 9 cell battery in my Inspiron 9200 is showing a 57% wear level. Does this actually mean that it's only got less than half it's original capacity? It seems to wear down after about an hour and then take over 2 hours to read 100% charge. I just assumed that it was because of the various things I was doing.

If it does mean it's time to replace it, can anyone recommend anywhere to get one in the UK? The Dell UK web site has then listed at £113.98

Your capacity is greatly reduced. I suggest getting a new battery off ebay or even from dell. You'll be amazed at how much more battery life you have.

Batteries are one of the few things that one SHOULDN'T get on Ebay, because they can grow bad just from sitting too long and especially so in the wrong conditions like a hot warehouse. The boards here and in other forums are filled with horror stories from people purchasing batteries from places other than the laptop manufacturer or one of their approved resellers only to have them go bad in a short period of time. When you buy a battery on Ebay it's really hit or miss as to its freshness, you might get lucky and you might not. Whereas if you buy directly from Dell you'll pay more but can at least rest assured of its freshness and thus life expectancy, because they're constantly turning over their inventory and ordering new ones. I hope this helps.

Ciao
