Santa Rosa

Hey everyone with the release of the Santa Rosa platform in March what do you will be the effects of its release on the notebook market? For example, do you think the prices will go up substantially, or just a few dollars. Because I'm deciding if I should buy a laptop before or after Santa Rosa's release, I heard it's supposed to be more powerful so it would make more sense to get it, but the prices will increase so I'll have to have weaker other components because of my budget.

Obviously santa rosa laptops will be more expensive because its brand new tech, but that doesnt mean that all other laptops will increase in price. In fact, I would venture to say that merom/yonah laptops will go down in price due to stores wanting to get rid of them for the new tech in santa rosa.

ok lemme put it this way, I want to buy a dv9000t laptop. I want it to have a good processor with 2Gb of RAM and a 3-year warranty I also want Vista Home Premium installed. So how would the release of Santa Rosa affect the pricing of this computer?

Like I said before, core 2 duo machines (dv9000t) will see a slight price decrease when Santa Rosa comes out due to HP wanting to get rid of its core 2 inventory and switch out to the new SR chipset.

same boat as original poster here.
trying to decide now, or later when new tech comes out

primarily i am waiting for DX 10 cards and santa rosa processors
but not because i want those.. but only because i am expecting Core2Du and Core duo to decrease in price.
How much of a decrease?.....well thats why i am making this post to ask.

how much do you think (nothing exact..just approx) will it go down?
For example...when Core Duo and Core 2 Duo came out, did Pentium 4 prices go down really..or was it a slight decrease?

Wait till about June so they can fix all of the issues with vista and then buy it, my opinion. I haven't even heard of santa rosa. LOL :P

I couldn't help but to say this- with all the updates intel is pushing out these days santa rosa will be old stuff in a year anyway. Yes you will get a performance increase but when 45nm cores are readily available santa rosa will will be just another hurdle. So I guess the moral of my story is get that laptop for the long haul because it doesn't make any sense to drop another 1-2k on a new chipset every 6 months

I am tired of playing the notebook upgrade game. How powerful do they need to be.

I am in the same boat, however i can wait a couple of months or so. I dont need a new laptop urgently. I have heard that there will be some new nice features other than just speed to SR.

However, I am looking at getting a MacBook Pro as i want to run my Mac apps (Final Cut, CS2, aperture) as well as some Win apps. Not sure when Apple will release a MacBook Pro with SR, not soon I bet. However as I want to run apps like Aperture i would like every bit of performance increase possible!
