Packard Bell V7413 And X1600 Grainess

Hi, I have bought a Packard Bell V7413 laptop.

I have chosen V7413 for that it has an Ati X1600 graphic card with 128bit bandwith. Also at Ati's website it is written the card has core/mem freq. of 450/450.

After i have bought i saw that it was 64 with a freq. of 418/375.Before Packard Bell, i was using a model with 64Mb X700 graphic card. The points i got from 3dMark tests was better than X1600.Asus f3j have the same card but its getting 6000 points from 3dmark03.

Also there is a grainess problem with this card.I must upgrade bios version but there is not one for V7413.Is there any other solution for to fix the problem.

Communicate with Packard Bell support if you haven't already done so. The graininess problem with the ATI GPUs is really not acceptable. Many manufacturers have a BIOS update that they don't generally make available except on request.

As for the 64-bit memory bandwidth vs. 128 bit advertised memory bandwidth on Ati's site, this is a problem you'll see with both ATI and Nvidia.

They release the parts intending it to be used a certain way. However the laptop or GPU module manufacturers sometimes unexpectedly cut corners to save money leaving the GPU manufacturers playing catch-up to update their specifications.

Other times, the GPU manufacturers boldly post the greater of multiple specs that a GPU is capable of (the lesser specs are hidden in the detailed tech specs) hoping to get better PR and quietly release cheaper "less functional" parts that would normally be considered rejects to sell on the wave of popularity of the better parts.

Also note that the clock speeds that ATI and Nvidia list are general guidelines. Many manufacturers will throttle them down (or even exceed the listed specs) to eke out more battery life and better control the heat generated (or to feature a "souped-up" laptop that has better performance scores)

Hope that helps. I personally think you got ripped off and if possible, you should return the laptop for a refund. An MR x1600 with only a 64-bit memory path is going to score between 15%-30% less than the 128-bit MRx1600.

That all depends, how long has it been since you bought it? How did you buy it? Cash or credit? Did you buy it in the US?
