What's Wrong With Fujitsu-Siemens?

Hi,

I'd appreciate your opinions on a laptop purchase. I need to buy a laptop in the next 4 weeks, I'm a little tied up in what I can choose as the wife has specified that the laptop must have a full numberpad (USB numberpads got a no-no).

I really want something with Core2Duo T7200 or better, 2gb RAM, 160gb HDD and a decent graphics card. I've had my heart set on an Alienware 5790 but they are not available in the UK

Had a look at the Rock CTX Pro but they have a max 100gb HDD and an option for a second HDD swappable with the cd-rom drive.

The laptop that I am currently fixed on is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo xi 1554 . It ticks all the boxes and looks v. nice but there doesn't appear to be much interest in it and having never owned a Fujitsu I'm worried how reliable they are.

Anybody have any experience with Fujitsu or any alternate suggestions that can be purchased in the United Kingdom? I've had a look at the Fujitsu forum here but there's not much mention of it.

All suggestions welcome

that is the alienware m5790, fujitsu is a very small player in the north american market and doesnt sell them here. thats part of the reason that you dont see too many people on this site owning their machines. the fujitsu that you linked to as your current choice is actually the same machine (physically) as the alienware. the alienware machine is from the same manufacturer and is branded with the new lcd cover and a paint job.

i own an earlier alienware version of the machine and honestly it is fantastic quality. im sure that you will get good service out of it and the little i have heard of their warranty and other support has been positive.

Thanks Fidget.

An Alienware without the rubber bits? I'll look forward to ordering one!

Many Thanks

I used to work for Siemens, interesting enough we used Dell laptops, because they (Siemens North America) had a hard time getting their own laptops in volume. In Europe it was the complete opposite, I went to a Siemens office in Hong Kong and they had Fujitsu laptops everywhere.

I would stick with Fidgets suggestion on the Alienware, their support is top notch, and local to the US. Not that Fujitusu does not have local service, but it seems a little risky.

Did you buy the FS yet? I am looking at buying one today, and wondered what your thoughts were.
