DELL Latitude C640 Simpletech 400 Mhz 2GB RAM works

Thread Starter
I just installed 2 x 1024 DDR memory cards on the Latitude C640 Pentium 4M 2.0Ghz. The BIOS is the A10 version on the Latitude.

They are Simpletech 400MHZ DDR 1 gb each. I took the laptop to a shop that caters to enterprise OEM solutions and they had the memory in the shop to test it before I left the store.

I searched all over the web including the notebook forums and couldn't find any definite reports that it would work.

Well, it does work - however your mileage may very if you try different memory brands. We didn't try any other memory.

Total cost was $238 (Feb 2007) I'm getting rid of my 2x256 since it works that well.

Nobody denied that such ram will not work, but obviously different brands have better/worse quality.

Any ddr1 400mhz laptop ram stick will work on ur p4m

ya any 400MHZ DDR will work up to two gigs but ya it does say every where that model only supports i gig of 400mhz ram and you can use pc2100 @266 or pc2700 @ 333mhz either will work . just to complete the thread ;)

I believe it will take it. I will need to locate my old C640 in my stack of retired machines and report back. I believe I maxed it out many moons ago....
