Video card upgrade

If I up grade my video card myself will it void my warrany? Its hard to get a answer from dell, going through all of the phone options before you even get a person on the line that speaks english. Also is it hard to change the video cards in the i8600s?

No it won't void your warranty and yes it is very easy to change. The only difficult part is finding a video card that will operate properly in your I8600 since the M10 is know to have heat issues with this notebook.

It will void your warrenty however if you installed it and somehow you end up damaging other parts. And yeah he did ask permission to put my baby up there

Umm...no it's not 'known to have heat issues'. There have been a few issues, but it's not like the 8600 is infamous for having heat issues or anything. My M10 works flawlessly, as do MOST others.

I would recommend never suggesting to anyone at Dell that you may have damaged your notebook while attempting a hardware upgrade. This would put Dell in a position where they would be forced to declare your remaining warranty void even if the upgrade wasn't the actual cause of the failure.

I detect a hint of sarcasm there. I switched my video card from the 64mb GeforceFX 5200go to the M10, and have zero problems. There's no reason why anyone else here couldn't do the same. That's all I'm saying. No need to be vicious now.

I called Dell about it for the sake of My Forum Obligations and as the representative Tammy said "Well as long as the part doesnt cause harm to your system I dont see why it would void your warrenty hold one just a second" insert 4 minute hold time WITHOUT music "Well My supervisor says as long as the system is running for over 48 hours without causing problems it wont void your warrenty but if for some reason a week later you get video card related problems your warrenty might get voided" I then asked what if a problem occured a month after "definetly wouldnt be a problem. Have I answered your questions regarding this matter?" yes yes you did thank you!

I was actually being sincere. You own the I8600 and can speak from experience about upgrading to the M10. The D800 I have also hasn't exhibited any heat-related problems since installing the M10.

As long as you get the latest BIOS update the 8600 will work fine with the new card...Stock issue will be the next question on the 9600,as long as they have them in stock you will have no problem ordering them for your 8600..(in your case its worth the upgrade)

I think most people with the M10 don't have heat related issues on default core and memory settings. I think the problem lies in overclocking an underclocked card.

There is mention here that you upgraded your D800 to the Mobility 9600. What BIOS did you upgrade to? I thought the D800 didn't suport the 9600. Please explain.

I installed the M10 shortly after DSP began listing it as a valid part number back in January. I believe I initially was on BIOS version A05 and since have flashed up to A07 with not one heat related issue the whole time.
