Alienware or Voodoo PC?

just curious which is the better of the two? I like the Voodoo since it looks more flashy. But it Alienware have the better performance?

Nobody but Alienware has SLI notebooks in a 17" platform... The m9750 will be king daddy of them all...

Both companies are resellers of base platforms from companies like Clevo, Uniwill, Arima, etc. and in large part use the same hardware to fill out the configurations. Alienware has their aesthetic treatments that I like, Voodoo has very expensive paint jobs.

If you're looking for ultimate performance, I'd look into the m9750. Compare the hardware you get in the Alienware to Voodoo's lines, and compare prices. The companies are very different at this point, so only you can decide what you want, and what you're willing to pay for it.

A comment from Hammer being truth is pretty much a constant. All I know is that if you purchase a Voodoo you won't have Hammer watching your back when some jerk tries to bash your new pc you just bought, and you probably won't get a nicer group of people to help you with any problems you may have then here in the alienware section. I love these guys/gals.

Sager/Clevo has a nice SLi platform (dual 7950GTXs or 7800GTX) .. although this notebook has a 20" screen. I think the model # on this is NP5960 or Clevo M590K.

Obviously the Alienware is a much nicer machine, but the Sager will be quite a bit less expensive. Check out www.powernotebooks.com for pricing/specs.

That actually isn't a very bad deal as you can get one with dual 7950's for about $4,000. Definately a desktop replacement though as you do not want to lug this around as an everyday portable. Still for the price building a dx10 capable desktop you would create a very nice system with an even better monitor and better ability to upgrade.

What do you guys think about Falcon Northwest vs. Voodoo?
Falcon NW is generally regarded as a high quality supplier. I'd seriously consider them for my next desktop, but I wouldn't choose them over Alienware for a notebook system.

With Falcon, you get everything you get at Voodoo, plus good support and service.

I wouldn't deal with Voodoo after my personal experiences there, and watching the way they treat customers with issues. I think you can get equivalent or better mobiles for much, much less at Alienware. Falcon Northwest is highly recommended though both for quality systems, and outstanding support.

What Hammer said
I like both computer companies, but think Alienware is better value for the money.
HardOCP would disagree to an extent on FNW's customer service......

I'd get a voodoo, only because I think they're cases and such are absolutely awesome ^_^

Notebooks are like women (no offense Shazza) in the way that you have to treat them with complete respect. They tend to be a bit more high maintenance with more upkeep than a desktop which is why I'm going to be building my own Desktop pc later this summer. However when I go looking for another mobile system I am going to give Alienware my first choice as I am completely satisfied with the way I've been treated by them and so is my lady (Aurora m9700).

I thought Falcon NW only had two lappys to choose from. The 9750, and some other light weight notebook. I don't think they offer any laptop in SLI (Sager's 20" monster), nor do they offer the 5760 (???). Am I wrong???
voodoo uses lian li cases, I'm sure you can get one laser/plasma cut to whatever design you wish and have it painted...but that may cost just as much as a voodoo =P

Yes, Most of their notebooks are Sager/Clevo machines. All voodoo PC notebooks are also Sager/Clevo machines also.. with an ABSOLUTELY ABSURD price tag. They have the nice paint jobs, but the price of these machines is rediculous. Do yourself a favor and buy one from powernotebooks.com or istnc.com for half the price. Personally, I'd buy the alienware machine, however not an SLi version.. they have quite a few overheating issues.

Haven't heard of too many people around here having problems with SLI overheating on the 9700s and hardly seen any problems with them at all for that matter. It seems to be a pretty stable platform from what I've seen. Hammer overclocked his to hell and back and it stayed stable...

I've had my m9700 with dual 7900's x256 and have no heat issues. I think the one issue I have read about here in the forums about an overheating m9700 was a mistake made by a builder forgetting to take the plastic covering off the gpu's before assembly. I have actually used my laptop on my lap sitting in an airport for over an hour. It gets a little warm, but no worse than any Dell or Toshiba I have ever used.
