Prevent Vista From Using Physical Memory - Page 2

Just be happy your machine is not running on 512mb of memory, windows will be eating 80 - 90 percent most of the time. 2GB of memory is not a great, but noticeable change from 1GB thats if your processor is speedy like the conroes, however 2GB is reccommended for vista. Just buy more ram. http://newegg.com has good deals =]

Don't forget that if you use the Aero display theme, it'll also eat up a chunk of memory.

Once again not that much unless you have 15 windows open and you keep moving them around

As has been said, Vista will try to use up as much physical memory as it can due to SuperFetch. However, Vista is only using *UNUSED* memory to do this, so disabling it to "free up" physical memory is silly.

Linux does much the same thing, filling up unused memory with cached content.

Hello,

My Inspiron 1501 shows that it has 896 MB of RAM. Their is 1 GB of memory installed in this laptop. Therefore, I assume (please correct me if I am wrong) that 128 MB of system memory is being allocated to the ATI Radeon Press 1150 graphics card?

If this is correct do you beleive that I will get a significant inprovement in performace increase in say (Battlefield 2 and Battlefied 2142) by upgrading my memory to 2 GB of memory and allocating 256 MB of memory to the graphics card?

Lastly, do you know if I install the following memory in my Inspiron 1501 that it will work as 667 MHz memory or will it be utilized at the 533 MHz level?

Crucial 2GB kit (1GBx2), 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module
P/N: CT612861
Module Size: 2GB kit (1GBx2)
