Looking to install new hard drive on HP Pavilion dv9000

Thread Starter
I want to add an additional hard drive to my hp pavilion dv9000 (with AMD processor and vista). Does anyone know if this notebook will fit? http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...ook_Hard_Drive If not, can anyone help me find the right hard drive? Thanks

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. It's nearly the specs of mine.

I just spent the last several days trying to install an additional SATA 160 gig hard drive in my dv9220us and let me tell you it wasn't pleasent. I have had great experiences with HP for the last y6 or so years, up until the last few months. ARGH! Ahyhow, the dv9000 take a standard drive like any other laptop, but there is a special adaptor and mounting bracket to install a second drive. The braket is no big deal, but the adapater is needed to connect the drive pins to the HD bus on the laptop. HP techs told me over and over I could not find it on their site so I did end up ordering it online. Model Number: RP246UA Model Description: HP PAVILION NOTEBOOK PC DV Part Number: 434106-001 That is the information from my order, I hope it helps you.

You could go much better on the price too and get larger storage. You will need that part though.

I want to do the same with my DV9000T. I've been told there is no connector or caddy for the 2nd drive if it didn't come originally with 2 drives installed, but you could buy it cheaper than going through HP. Also, there are two different types of connectors out there and until you open your case, you can't be sure of what you need. I have also read that the HP caddy limits the max hard drive size, but 3rd party vendors do not. Might check into it.

He's right about the hard drive parts. you will need the connectors to hook the laptop up to and the laptop caddy to secure it in the bay. once you get those parts it may be a hassle to put it on, but long term its worth it to have the second drive but you know that. perservere and youll get there. heck youve already got the part number!

also, they are right about the drive. thats an OK drive but you can do better. go to newegg and check out their hard drives. i would recommend the hitachi 160 gig sata drive, its gonna be a better drive for the a better price.

Well I got a 160 GB for under $100 and since i live rather near to the distributer I would be charged extra if I didn't choose two day shipping. (funny to be charged extra to wait longer for your package! ) I got the official part from HP rather than one of the other places out there that carry the part since they markup by at least 300% which is rediculous for a part that at cost is likely $4. (HP charges $40) Anyhow I had no problems installing it into my notebook and it didn't limit me on the size I could insert. Everything worked out fine. I'd hold off on the 200 GB right now since it's a newer comodoty and still twice the cost of the 160 GB HD and climbing.
