NMI Parity Check/ Memory Parity Error

Every 3 days or so, i get this message, Call your hardware vendor for support.

NMI Parity Check/ Memory Parity Error

The system has halted.

Ive done some HW on this and they say its either a RAM or Motherboard issue. I ran 2 or 3 RAM tests, all came back ok, or at least i didnt get any errors. do does this mean i need to send this 1705 back for a new MB???

It's not a RAM issue, I've got the BSOD on two different 2x1GB 533MHz and 2x512MB 667MHz and they all passed every memory tests. It's not a BIOS problem either since I've gotten the BSOD on both A04 and A05. It's not a power supply issue either since I've got it with rev A02 and A03 and video card with my 7900gs and FX 2500M and video drivers. It may come down to the motherboard or stray voltage. Check out the sticky. Seems like a lot of people have the same issue.

Has anyone got the NMI error on Vista?

Alot of people with 1705 and 9400 have this issue.
I'm working with Dell support on this. I replaced the motherboard and memory.
The motherboard they gave me was bad so I got my old one back with new memory.
Still have the BSOD. Now I have a 7800 GO video card. It's been a four days and no blue screen of death (yet). If I make it past a week then it's a good sign. I run this machine about 16+ hours/day doing development so if anything, after 1 week is a good sign. After 1 month, I'll be able to live with BSOD once a month rather than once or twice a week.

Yes. I got one last week. I get one about once a week or so. I just upgraded to Vista and was really hoping that would fix it. No such luck.

I had the same problem on a M90. Mboard replaced and it went away.

Lots of things can cause NMI's. Some of the thing i have seen that cause them are memory timings problems (system or video) and video drivers. Some suggestions for trouble shooting NMI's are:

Try Dell lastest video driver.
Reflash the vbios to it's shipping default (If you have tweaked or unlocked it)

If you have added 3rd party memory take it out and go back to the memory that shipped with the system (if possible). Running memory test may not show an issue with the memory. Thing have to be just right for the NMI to occur (in most cases) and the memory test may not show a problem.

Just some suggestions, Hope this help.

Ive done no unlocking of the 7900gs, i have latest drivers installed, think its worth sending my Newegg Corsair 2Gb Ram 667 in for a replacement???

I have had this issue in the past. In my case, it was related to graphics drivers. Dell's graphics drivers are no good. I got mine form nvidia. That got rid of my issue.

I was getting NMI parity errors every few minutes.. updating drivers and such did absolutely nothing in my particular case. I found it was my Atheros Wireless card that was causing the error.. i switched back to an Intel 3945 and the error went away.

There is a huge thread over on Notebookreview.com on this, many people have different fixes for their NMI errors.. check it out : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=92036

I was having the problem and removed the Intel Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG software and the problem has gone away.

That particular blue screen and message can originate from quite many different issues, some hardware-based, some software. For me it was a problematic gpu driver - once a stable driver was used (there were several), never a blue screen or error message.

I think I will try the current Nvidia driver to see if that helps.

Well I seem to have fixed my NMI BSOD by updating my Atheros wireless card drivers. I had been using the ones that came with the Atheros client software but when I updated to the ones from IBM/Lenovo (ending in 112d) my BSOD's went away. My laptop would get the NMI whenever the wifi antenna was on AND it was about to enter sleep mode. I have let it enter sleep mode about a dozen times in the last day and it hasn't crashed yet.

My problem definitely seems to have been a driver issue.
