I just ordered the 7950GTX from DELL spare parts, I talked to the dell reps and they said that it should fit the E1705 chassis since its the same as the XPS M1710. I'll post the pics as soon as I get the card.

From what i understand, none of the Dual Heat Pipe Viceo cards will fit into the E1705 with out a mod to the case for the second Pipe.

You were lucky they sold you a 7950 for a E1705.

The dell rep was very concerned about putting XPS parts in non-xps laptops...so do your best to convince them otherwise! They definetly want to make the sale but at the same time if it doesn't work she was very concerned about getting fired...so do your best to assure them that you'll be doing a good job.

I may have to modify the case based on the other threads I've read. Hopefully I won't have to do that.

I just upgraded my laptop to the 7950GTX,

I was able to use BIOS A07 for the e1705
to make the install easier i upgraded my 7800 go drivers with the 7950 GTX drivers prior to extracting the old video card.

folllowed the 7900 GTX install by "mbosys"

-You will have to modifiy the case a bit to get the second heatpipe to fit.

and made sure that I had the 130W power brick.

that's it!
