upgrading the M60?

I've had my M60 for about 7 months now and am for the most part, very happy with it's performance, especially in Maya (the QuadroFX just rocks it..)

anyhow, this weekend, my mate got a Sager and we benchmarked them using the Nightflight AfterEffects test.. My Dell got crushed, HARDCORE.. The Sager had the P4 3.2 HT and it was ugly, to say the least... My little Centrino got spanked hard______________ .

so my question is: When Intel rolls out the faster Pentium M's (I think the 2.1 ghz is coming soon?) can I upgrade my laptop to this faster chip? Do I need to send it over to Dell for them to do it if I'm under warranty/Gold Service?

anybody know?

well theres a 1.6, 1.7, 1.8Ghz Dothans (2mb L2 cache version of our cpu) coming soon 2.0 ghz is still a long ways away and Dell will not upgrade it for you but the servicing can be done by yourself

Another handy upgrade for your M60 would be to the 128MB Quadro FX 1000, that would give you a fantastic speed boost in games and other apps over the FX 700 you currently have

so these 'upgrades' are relatively easy and are possible? usually laptops are not very upgradeable... ?

(I have some pride to reclaim.. that benchmarking test was pretty lopsided... )

How about this benchmark....seeing as how you are testing LAPTOPS.

Turn them on without being plugged into the wall.....start playing a game at the same time as your friend. Don't really say anything while you are both playing, but after about an hour when his laptop turns off, ask him to come over and check yours out and continue playing for atleast another hour.

Recharge the batteries.....try this same thing while playing a DVD.

Recharge the batteries....try the same thing with some appliations.

Continue as you would like....then you will see who is lauging at the end.

Remember, these are LAPTOPS...and if considering benchmarks, make sure to consider what the whole point of LAPTOPS are....to not be desktops only! Battery life is a beautiful thing.

Have fun!
