Strange issue with gaim and my wifi?

So i have been bitch about my campus's wireless network for a while to the system admins, etc. Because what it would be super flaky under XP, anyways long and the short of that problem is that apparently there is a problem with their Crisco AP's and my 2200 B/G card... that they are "working" on.

Anyways so i install Ubuntu on my system, get the wifi working, bamo its super reliable etc. But then i start noticing that requently i could loose connection, and this all of a sudden happened at home too.

Then i realize that it ONLY happens when gaim is running.... strange. What it would do is cause any of my web browsing to be super slow and the connection would be dropped every few minutes etc. But as soon as i close gaim everything would return to normal....

What do you guys think?

fire up a sniffer and see what it shows. I don't think your wifi card will work for capturing packets. Does it do the same thing wired? If it is install ethereal and run it to see what is going on.
