Buying a new gaming laptop...buy now or wait?

Howdy all

Original XPS Gen 1 owner here but I sold it long time back and went back to console gaming with XBox 360. Now after 2 years, I feel like getting back into PC gaming and also a 17" laptop (like my XPS) would be ideal. My budget is about $1500-$2000.

I was looking at a couponed E1705, HP9000VT (but VC appears weak) or may dish out the extra and go with a Sager 17"er. Im also looking for 1650X1050 screens as I found the 1920X1080 res too high for eyes.

Question is with Vista out now and Dx10 cards already coming out for desktops, should I hold off my $$$$ and wait for another couple of months or go for a good deal/laptop now?

How long will the current laptop technology (with Dx9 cards) last? Especially for gaming? For people that have already bought expensive laptops such as XPS 1710, Sagers, etc recently, doesn't it bother you that a $XXXX laptop will be 'last-gen' by mid-year?

TIA

it will be at least Q3 before high end dx 10 cards come to laptops... so if you want to be seriously gaming with dx10 your going to be waiting for a while yet.

Look into a Everex XT5000T Laptop. I just came from an M170 maxxed out. And I am quite impressed for a budget laptop. Its $799.00 at newegg and upgradeable all the way around.I gave my M170 rig to my son in case your wondering. Cheap way to wait on the Dx10
