Only upgradeable to the 400MHz Dothans? Or could I purchase the 90nm 533MHz Pentium M 2.13GHz w/2mb L2 when it's released and install it myself?

Nope. The 533MHz Dothans require the new Alviso chipset.

So....I'm sitting at the 'Submit Order' screen...and I still can't decide. Purchase this now and wait for a year until the new Dothans are out and the prices are down...and then upgrade the processor? Or wait unti the first generation of Dothans hits the streets and configure a system then?

What do you guys think? BTW, I am going to need a notebook in my hands by June.
Thanks for any input.

If you need a notebook by June, go for it. The next generation of stuff (mainly the Sonoma, successor to Centrino) won't hit the streets until September at the earliest.

Or do I go with the AX6 Athlon 64 3400 DTR flavor?
From an efficiency standpoint (power vs battery life, weight, and heat) the P-M is the most efficient, followed by the AMD64, and at last place the P4. That is, using our current 32bit OS. Whether 64bit OS's and apps will take off before you would want to buy another new notebook, is anyone's speculation.

Nice system but I would kill the Logitech 500 and get the Best Buy exclusive 510. It's got a holographic ruby red cover and it has the full MX sensor enabled for higher resolution & better control for the same price.
I really want to know whether the PC3200 memory runs at their native 400MHz or at 333MHz (which I think is the highest the 855GME chipset will support).
"Best Buy exclusive 510" what is it? and where is it found?
I asked the same question...according to the sales rep....it runs @ 333MHz, so it really has no advantage.

So close to pushing the button on this:

Aviator CX6 Laptop (Silver)
(No Keyboard Selected)
(No Mouse Selected)
1.6GHz Intel® Pentium® M Processor w/ 1024K Cache
(No Memory Selected)
(No Memory Selected)
ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 (M11) 128MB for CX6 (w/ TV Out)
(No TV Tuner Selected)
60GB 7200rpm Ultra ATA Hard Disk Drive w/8MB Cache
8X DVD / 24X-10X-24 CD-R/W Combo Drive w/ Recording Software
15.4" WXGA High Contrast Active Matrix LCD Display (1200x800)
(No Speakers Selected)
Integrated 100MBit Fast Ethernet Controller
Internal Bluetooth™ Module for CX6
Integrated V.92 56K Fax/Data Modem
Non-Operating System Setup (Blank HD). Only Testing and Burn-in
1Year 9/5 Toll-Free Tech Support w/ DEPOT Service & Lifetime Support

Total: $1880

Still not sure about $49 for the dead pixel guarantee. How significant is a dead or partially lit pixel? Spending close to 2g, what's another $50, right!

Hey, I'm going off to college next summer too, and this is looking like a really sweet lappy. I am going to wait until I'm actually going to need it though (summerish) so as to save money and maybe something new will come along in the near future.

best buy has an exclusive Logitech MX510 mouse that has higher resolution, ships with drivers you can't get off the Logitech site (cuz they would probably make the MX500 operate at the same resolution) and has a ruby red holographic cover.

I bought 2. They're incredible looking and offer amazing response that I have not felt before.

1280x800 ow well, prices this good for such an awesome laptop I'll settle

I d'nt suppose there are any plans on putting in a higher res screen? Can screens be replaced by others of the same dimensions with higher res?
I bought the 510 from best buy and just hooked it up....holy crap! What an unbelievable change from my Intellimouse explorer! I never thought that a mouse could make such a difference! Thanks for the rec.

The price is great. But the cost of painting it is way more than the rest of the laptop...Man, this thing is killing me. Great battery, great performance, but not sure if I want to spend the money now....

I really like the specs of this lappy too except for:

1) Just WXGA instead of WSXGA or WUXGA
2) No "multibay" for 2nd battery
3) It's a widescreen, which I don't prefer (even though I just bought a 65" 16:9 HDTV!)
4) No reviews so far

Otherwise this has GREAT specs. A PM with the ATI 9700 sounds awesome.
