CRAP! left my ac adapter at a clients.. am I gonna be ok?

So I left my ac plugged into the wall, 3 hours away =( and i don't plan on going back till next week. Im hoping... HOPING! that my girlfriends adapter will work. I have a dv9000 and she has a dv6000. I flipped my laptop over and checked the battery bay and it lists 18.5v 3.5a OR 19.5 4.7a which is 65W and 90W respectively using a calculator I found online. The adapter that came with the laptop was a 90W, hers is a 65W. The laptops are nearly identical, and the specs in the battery bay seem to suggest that 65W would be alright. Am I going to run into any issues?

thanks in advance

you may not be able to boot your machine on the lower power adaptor... its a crapshoot so all you can do is hope your lucky or buy another adaptor.

Heh heh...I recently ran into a similar problem you did.

If your laptop draws 90W at max consumption, then it will try to do that from your 65W adapter, something it wasn't intended to do. Assuming the plugs match, it's probably safe to just recharge your battery from the lower wattage AC adapter. Powering the laptop and recharging the battery may be a little too much for it.

My personal experience: The lower wattage adapter worked fine for me for the week I used it (while the replacement was enroute), but I noticed that the AC adapter would get a lot HOTTER when the laptop was on and recharging the battery at the same time. It's basically a crap shoot. It should boot but you could end up causing the lower wattage AC adapter to melt or even explode.

whats the chance of damaging the laptop? thats my only real concern. =)

Well, if your ac adapter blows (or melts), there's a small chance it could send a surge through the DC line into your DC converter in the laptop, possibly killing the it. Dead converter=dead laptop. I'd say to try it and check the AC adapter often to make sure it don't get too hot...or starts bulging...that's a sign that something's about to blow...
