which vista ultimate to get?

i want to upgrade to windows vista ultimate but which version should i get the oem or retail version?

If you plan on tying the install to your laptop permanently, the OEM version will be just fine. If you plan on godfathering the key to other systems down the line, you'll want the retail to avoid headaches.

I'm sure someone will find a simple way around the OEM single-transfer lock by the time you contemplate getting a new system, anyway.

Yes...once you install OEM Vista on one machine, you can't transfer it to another. It dies along with the pc =/

Actually, Microsoft "caved" to allow ONE license transfer for end user-bought OEM copy of Vista. OEM versions preinstalled on OEM machines are single-use only.
