I keep seeing Everex, but who are they?

I've been frantically searching for a cheap laptop, and I keep seeing "Everex" brand stuff... Never heard of them, are they new or rebrands or what?

Everex was a top 5 PC company back in the early 80s but was purchased by First International Computer in the early 90's. FIC is one of the world's largets OEM/ODM manufacturers and builds for Dell, HP, Intel (MBs), GTW, etc.

A couple years ago the Everex brand started to pop-up again in the retail channel. I guess with the consolidation in the industry, FIC found they could cut 1 extra layer of fat out of the channel and get products on the shelf cheaper then everyone else and still make a buck.

I bought a 15.4" everex model a few months ago. Pretty nice PC...

check out the everex forum at hardocp. all the information you could ask for. Everex is negotiating with Tiger Direct and NewEgg over handling their models. Tiger already sells the xt5000t, we'll wait and see what's happening. reportedly there is a refreshed version due out very soon. I have two of these, and they are spectacular deals for the money.
and for a whole lot more actually.
