Toshiba P105-S9337 Terrible game perfomance! (on a gaming laptop)

Just yesterday I purchased a Toshiba P105-3997 gaming laptop with Windows Vista and I'm getting horrible frame spikes. For a gaming laptop I find it very difficult to game on. The problem here is that whenever I run any type of game (Halo PC, Battlefield 2, even 3dmark) I get wonderful performance except for every 5 seconds my frames per second drop to sub 10 levels. For example, I play Halo. With all high settings at native res I get 100 frames per second. Not, every 5 or so seconds my frames drop to the 20-10 range and then go back up. This symptom is similar to other programs, including Vista's built in chess game! This is rediculous! It has a GeForce Go 7900 GS for god sakes, it should be able to handle these things like nothing. Anyone have any suggestions? If I cant get this fixed I'll have to return my laptop, unfortunately, and go with a more expensive XPS or so .

This is a normal behavior for Vista. Drivers aren't yet optimized for that system. If you installed XP in that very same computer the games would fly. You just have to be patient and wait for newer drivers

From Toshiba? I think that wont be likely to happen anytime soon. Do you happen to know any modded driver sites? (My previous laptop had an ATI card and I always went to omegadrivers.net, they were much better) I would go with omegadrivers but they dont seem to update their Nvidia drivers much. Just about anything would help right now, Thanks all!

Try these for Vista 32? If that doesn't work then i don't know what will

Hey, I just thought I'd chime in, I have the same system and have the same problem. Good to know it's not specific to my computers, bad to know I have to wait for new drivers...

Is it definitely a driver problem though? I mean, if it is, why is this computer even OUT with vista and advertised as a gaming laptop if it can't run games properly. I feel kind of cheated.

just to let you know that i went to XP even though my toshiba was installed with vista and everything runs 10x better! like i said mine is a Nvidia 7300 though.

I really thought it was the laptop that was crap and was going to send it back but glad i didnt! programs dont crash, things dont run so slow! games run good for the card im happy. Vista can wait! The only problem is that vista is on the recovery CD that came with the laptop so i dont know how to instaill vista back or if you can.

One thing you can do is install XP on another hard disk if you have it. My laptop had two and it was an uber laptop. So you can pick which one to run on start up

???????????
I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to say. If Vista came on the recovery disk, then all you would have to do is boot the computer with the recovery disk in and load VISTA. It would be the same way it came out of the box

Oh, well i meant since i installed XP it would mean i would have to wipe everything off both hard disks if i ever wanted to install vista back. It has to be on your main hard disk too so i cant jsut put on my 2nd hard disk. Also im not sure about if it will automatically put the serial for vista on since you dont get it given to you.

The serial number for VISTA should be on the bottom of your computer. At least, that was the case when I bought mine

I to have bought this machine and was very unhappy with it. Its a gaming laptop that cant even handle games because of vista it seems. Now im thinking of installing XP on it but im kind of worried about finding drivers for it. Been to the toshiba website but didnt see any drivers for this model that are for XP. Also Looked at Nvidia but they got nothing. Has anyone unistalled Vista for XP with this model? How much better does it run if you did? What video driver did you use? Any info or links right now would be helpful. Thanks

I couldnt find my model on toshibas website either but i just used the drivers they had on there for the model that seemed the closest. oh my model im sure wasn't even there or i was just a bit dumb but i tried a few drivers for similar models and they all worked anyway. My model is different to yours but my laptop improved soooo much.

Hi I recently bought a Satellite P105 S9337. Some of my games were not running well on my Window Vista so i decided to reinstalled it with my XP CD. After the installation i tried to find my video drivers everywhere but can not find anything. I also tried to look for the closest matched video drivers for the XP but it would not run. It would just say that i do not have the right hardware installed. At this point im very frustrated because it seems that only vista drivers were released for my Geforce Go 7900GS. I even try to install the drivers from Nvidia website but no go. Has anyone ran into the same problem and find any solution at all? All help are greatly appreciated!!! If i can't find anything i might have to return my laptop =(

And does anyone else have terrible heating issues on the lower right corner on the bottom? Seems way too hot for some reason.

Did you follow my link above in this thread for a video driver? there's also one or 2 for XP

Woot you are right!!! i got it to work. I used the XTreme-G 94.20 driver and it worked wonders Thanks so much.

Look at the P105-S921. It seems to be the same laptop with XP (at least it has the 7900GS). Go to Toshiba US support site (link) & get the XP drivers there.

NP. I use it as well. It is a solid driver

Do any of you guys have really wierd heating issues when running the laptop on XP? Mine heats up so much that probably rest around 70-90 C. Makes me really nervous. And when i try to play the game Silverfall it gives me this wierd screen error. =/ Anyone else experience this?
