Tremendous heating problem P105-s9722/bios update

Thread Starter
Been having a serious heating problem (A difference of +20*C) with my laptop since upgrading to Vista. Toshiba has a bios update specifically for Vista but it causes me to bluescreen when booting Vista or even installing it, so even if that contains the fix it is not usable.
The culprit is my video cards fan. It constantly spins very low, rather than spinning up when it needs to. Has anyone found a solution to this, or perhaps a way to get the bios update to work.

If the computer worked fine before upgrading; i would assume it is a driver and/or application problem.

Though Vista looks great and has lots of cool perks at the moment, I seriously would not recommend having Vista as an operating system at the moment. I would wait at least until april or june until more drivers/updated bios are available and more bugs have been resolved with supporting programs. Stick with XP Pro SP2 w/ the Vista Transformation Pack 6.0 for now if you have the vista craving. I would recommend reading this (if you have not already as other people are having the same issue as you are) link. Here's another link Goodluck! My conclusion after research is the current nvidia driver for vista. For the quickest fix, please stick with the microsoft drivers and pay attention to the update log for the nvidia vista driver for thermal or power management.

Go to Toshiba's customer support page and download and install the TOSHIBA "Value Added Package for Windows Vista", it contains a system device driver for the ACPI Thermal Zone...might help control the fans better! Hope they have a driver for your model!

I haven't upgraded..I bought the s9722 about two weeks ago and I am getting the heating problem. I have noticed that when im allready in windows the fan to the left of the laptop doesnt do anything... it's like dead.. It heats up andto to try I played Age of Empires 3 and after a while it staretd to get slow.. I checked the tempreature of the core GPU and it was 108 C. and im guessing thats a lot. For some reason though if I boot up and go the BIOS menu, the fan turns on.. I did this right after playing the game and the fan was at full potential trying to decrease the tempreature.. if it does turn on only during bios .. what the hell could be the problem.. i have bios version 2.4 which i think i the latest one.. ( i use windows xp proffessional).. If anyone has come up with a solution please let me know... its fustrating to have a such nice spec computer and cant play games like AOE which should require much less specs. Thanks..
