HD Upgrade ?'s Acer Travelmate 524TE

Hey folks, I just purchased a Acer Travelmate 524 TE, P3 650Mhz, 512mb ram, 12gb HD, CD-rom, well... you get the idea I love this laptop! For 650mhz, its not all that bad. I did upgrade the memory STAT when I got it - it only had 128mb and was painfully lethargic... 512mb RAM makes a noticeable and pleasurable difference!

I pulled the HD out of the bay to discover its only 4200RPMS. P-U. Nothing like my company laptop which is 7200RPM and 60GB! Please excuse my stupidity on this, if it is actually a stupid question

Question is this: Can I buy a new Hitachi 2.5" ATA/IDE 60GB 7200 RPM, 8mb cache HD and will it work with my Acer Travelmate 524 TE? Will I need a BIOS update? Can this workhorse handle 60GB's and 7200RPMS?

Hmm if its that old, probably is still ATA/IDE. I would expect the hard drive to work fine

It is in fact ATA/IDE. I took the 12gb HD out and it said that on the label.

So the Hitachi 40GB 7200RPM ATA/IDE HD will work? As long as its ATA/IDE I'll be fine?
