Memory Upgrade

Thread Starter
I have a gateway mx3210--I just purchased 1 GB memory (currently 256) for it and it is not working. We followed all the steps correctly and it is not responding... Installation for the memory seemed pretty simple... maybe TOO SIMPLE. I checked the spec again, it's correct. I even excganged the memory for a new one and tried again... What did I do wrong??? HELP!!!

That happened to me twice I had a similar Problem........bought Kingston 1GB DDR2 PC4200 533Mhz Sodium for my MX6447 Notebook, installed it with the same type Kingston 1GB DDR2 PC4200 533Mhz, didn't work, notebook got REAL HOT, wouldn't bootup, so, I let it cool down, and tried again, SAME Problem, returned it, exchanged it for another one, same Specs Kingston DDR2 1GB PC4200 533Mhz, still didn't work, same problems, but, here's the kicker to all this, I have 1GB Kingston DDR2 PC4200 533Mhz,in slot 1, and in slot 2 I have 512Mb that shipped with my GW MX6447, but, some how this Ram config works? but with the 2GB Kingston's DDR2 PC4200 533Mhz DIDN'T WORK any body have any Idea as to why this Memory upgrade didn't work? could it be that the Kingston I bought to upgrade to 2GB wasn't compatibale with the same one I bought, over 3 months ago? and that the 512MB that shipped w/ my MX6447 is Compatiable w/ the Kingston 1GB, I know this doesn't MAKE any sense to me, but, is there something synchey and I ,are both missing here? How do I FIX this Memory Upgrade problem? do I NOW have to buy 2 one GB Sticks of the same lot, at the same time?, (in pairs) and, if so, would this correct this problem? this is gonna be an expensive memory upgrade if I have to do this, just to get 2GB Sticks to work in my notebook............anybody know?

I have spent the better part of the day scouring the internet for information on this topic. This is the only topic I have found that exactly relates to my problem. I also have a MX3210 and am trying to upgrade the memory to 1GB. I purchased a 1GB module of the proper specs from Kahlon but when I install it the machine just sits there and does nothing. When I put the original 256MB module back in the slot the computer boots as normal. Gateway offers no help in upgrading the memory on this model. Although they do hint that it is possible in the User Guide. All the memory upgrade sites claim to support the MX3210 with DDR2. Some say the max is 2GB, others say 1GB. Gateway says nothing. Aparently there is some super-sensitivity with these machines and just any "compatible" module will not work. I have read that Samsung modules may be the answer. But I can;t find any definitive answer on what to look for to upgrade this machine. Does anyone know of a reference for this model? What motherboard type? I have read several posts that claim to have upgraded this model to 1GB. But no specifics. It's like they claim to have just upgraded, no problem. What were they using? Samsung modules? Purchased from where? I'll keep looking. There's gotta be an answer somewhere. But even this topic has not received any comments except from two of us with the same problem. No solutions. Anyone? Thanks, Sean
