Got My Vista Home Premium Express Upgrade DVD's yesterday, and it's NOT a Gateway Restore DVD, it's the Real Thing (complete with a product key) they came in a 3rd party package form Moduslink, I'm not sure if this will install on something other than a Gateway, but looking at the Vista DVD(with windows explorer) it seems to be a Microsoft Vista Home Premium Upgrade OEM DVD.........The 2nd DVD is a Vista Drivers and Application DVD that appears to be a Branded Gateway DVD for the lastest Gateway Vista Drivers......... LOOK HERE: to see what the DVD's look like: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...0~start=40#end --

I'm using Vista Ultimate DSP/OEM Version right now........I haven't even tried to use the Gateway/Moduslink one, as it would be a downgrade form Vista Ultimate Version, not sure what I'll do with it? maybe put it on my Old Gateway 7405GX, I gave that one to my Roomie, he likes it, but has said that he's NOT Interested in Vista (can't say that I blame him) I'm not too happy with Vista at this point, I may go back to XP PRO, at least EVERYTHING works in XP? when you do get your Vista Upgrade, make sure you can go back to XP if you don't like it, (I made a Norton Ghost Backup DVD of XP PRO & XP MCE 2005) as many others have gone back to XP, Vista has nice EYE CANDY, but it's not really worth all the trouble, maybe it will be a good OS when MS writes a SP 1 for it this fall..............who knows? ....if you think you're missing out on Vista your NOT, but you will see what I'm talking about when you do get it on your MX6453, you may NOT even like Vista it's a lotta hype nothing more, so many things have changed in Vista.........guess it takes getting used to, I still don't think it's a very stable OS tho.................kinda reminds me of Windows ME......EEEEEEEEK!!!! what a NIGHTMARE & MISTAKE that was............................

That's right Denb. I keep forgetting about the version differences as you've mentioned a few times. I want to get rid of WMC 2005, so I will probably install Vista when it arrives. There's no option to go back to XP once Vista is installed though. Wasn't that an option in an prior OS, ME maybe??? I saw that Norton Ghost software. Looked cool, wish I could afford it.

You can can get Norton Ghost 2003 (only works with XP) for about 10 bucks if you look around the web, I have a XP MCE 2005, and a XP PRO Norton Ghost DVD Image, I even copied Vista Ultimate to a USB 2.0 HDD, so I have 3 choices not sure if I want to keep Vista tho may go back to XP PRO, I NEVER liked MCE 2005 tho, it came with the notebook, and as for Vista?.........Well, I don't really like it all that much........XP PRO Rules tho............

Ok Denb. What I will do is see what I have downloaded already and then go from there. Thanks for the info.

BTW - I was on my router's site yesterday and saw the patches for it for Vista as well as my wireless PC card. They have the word BETA in the downloads and I am like ugggh ohhhh. I think I'll be alright though. (laughs). One of my printers, they've already sent Vista info too. Off to see what the other one is saying about it. Have a good one!!

If you can believe this, I actually put Vista Home Premium (the one I got form Moduslink) on my old 7405GX and it worked, it even has a Vista Base Score of a 3.3 where as my MX6447 only has a Vista Base Score of a 3.1, I couldn't figure out what to do with it snice I'm using Vista Ultimate, so, I gave it to my roomie (he has my old 7405GX) it even runs Aero Glass............I know, I couldn't believe my eyes, it works Better with Vista than my MX6447 does

Well I am still trying to get my copy. I received a letter in the mail stating that they needed my order number. WTF???? They have my proof of purchase but do not have my order number. DUUUUUUUUUH???? I can fax it or I can mail it. Will fax it and see what comes of it.... Mercy, I do hope it's all worth it.

Yeah.........well give em' HELL, you are entitled to that Vista Xpress Upgrade, you paid for it when you traded-up your old Notebook, so, investigate, fax, email, and send whatever they want, yes it's worth it, snice you don't have to buy the FREE Vista Home Premium Xpress Upgrade

Well your not missing anything Vista isn't all that great, what ever you do DO NOT download the lastest Gateway Vista BIOS update, if you do, your XP won't work anymore, and they won't have your old XP BIOS, I'm screwed, that's what I did, and now going back to XP after it's installed LOCKS UP & after 30 min. the notebook re-boots and the ATI Video/chipset drivers and the 3D grapichs won't work in XP anymore, nothing I can do about this ,Gateway says just to use Vista and just get-over-it, as we don't support XP anymore, and it's your fault that you did this and your warranty is now TOAST!!! However Gateway did offer to sell me a NEW motherboard for $344 but I declined that offer and told them THANKS FOR NOTHING!!! I guess now my XP Restore DVD's make Great Coasters.........LOL they aren't much worth anything anymore snice they cannot be used anymore...........if I do use them I end up with a broken XP OS.....................The good news is Vista works well in my MX6447, but I cannot ever go back to XP again..............Oh well.................

And in Fri/Sat mail, I rec'd a letter dated March 1 telling me to send them my order number - AGAIN?!?!? I am calling as I just faxeda bout 6 pages to them since day 1. I'm not sure I will even install it now. I just want whatever I was told I would get by Gateway, these people and Best Buys.
Yeah stay on them, give them everything they ask for, but I gotta tell ya ,XP is way better than Vista, so, you aren't missing anything, and not being left out, I've had Vista for about 4 months, and it's no walk-in-the-park and that's for sure, what I would give for a WORKING XP right now, but as I stated above that's not gonna happen on this notebook anymore........maybe, if I look around, I might be able to find a XP notebook as a spare, but it WON'T BE A GATEWAY I'm done with this Company for Good...............Gateway as treated me like SHIT, and won't honor my warranty, I will never buy another Gateway EVER AGAIN!!! They lost me as a Customer for good...................

Wow, that's sad Denb. Here's my latest news. I just spoke to someone who gave me her direct line to call her in 3 days if I do not get a confirmation call or email. She said I "did everything right". She has flagged my account so noting that I have sent in several times over all requested documents. After waiting threee days about 4 -6 weeks it should at my door. I am marking my calendar as a clear reminder. Man, what an ordeal. But at least that was a pleasant phone call. Keep ya posted.

I was told by somene who recently puchased a laptop that they had an option @ BB to get Vista or XP. Maybe you can check around. I did get to glimpse Vista over the weekend, looked interesting but I'd have to play with it more to see all it's features/functions.
yeah I just may do that, just to have a spare in another room, I see that that XP notebooks are very cheap now, depending on what you want.......
