Just about two weeks ago I purchased a Sager 9860 on ebay for what I thought was a great price ($900). Here are the specs; 3.4ghz extreme edition p4, 2gigs of ram, geforce 6800 w/256mb memory, xp professional, and 2 100gig hardrives. I got the laptop about a week ago and it has been running great playing all the games I love. Just last night however, I was in the middle of playing battlefield 2 and the program shuts down and it goes to the blue screen of death and says "a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer" and the whole rest of that long error message. It also did some odd little process where it seemed to delete 67 files if I read correctly. Anyway, when I went to start it up again I got a black screen and it wouldn't start. So I shut it down and started it a couple more times and thats when I got to the screen that allowed me to start in safe mode, normally, or at its last known good settings. I chose last known good setting and it fired up xp professional and I clicked on my account only to have it load my personal setting for like 2 seconds and then shut down. The problems starting up seem to be different each time because now it usually will just go to a black screen when I start it up and the hardrive isnt spinning at all, just the fans are working. I dont know if this is a problem with the main hardrive and a power supply? If someone could help me out that would be great.

unfortunately you may be having Mother board issues. If the fans were cloggeed with dust or anything that may have caused it to overheat. It doesnt sound like a specific HD problem because it doesnt sound to me like it is even posting. Your best bet now is to send it to Sager. They will charge you for it since it isnt warranteed to you. I would reccomend that once you get it fixed tell them to charge you for the extended warrantee as well so this way it is covered by sager just in case

T-monkey, you should have checked out these forums before you bought that machine. Just on the Sager front page there are 8 threads about dead 9860's. The motherboard is defective on those machines. You should contact the seller and try to get your money back.
If you choose to keep the machine stop using it. The motherboard replacement is expensive, but you don't want to kill the video card too (which is happening often). Send it in to sager asap.

BigTrouble,
Is it even worth arguing with Sagar that this model is a lemon and it should be replaced. Or have hundreds already tried it with no luck? I talked to the ebay member I bought it from but he had no clue so I'd rather not push the problem with him. Will Sager offer any discounts on the replacement? What should I expect to spend? After all I do not have any warrentee. If anyone else has suggestions feel free to share. Thanks.

This is the newest comment I found.
An upgrade path for 9860 and 9880 owners is available to the 9890motherboard -
the 7950 GTX GPU - and a new AC adapter for $1100 + freight from Sager.
